SUPERVISION EXCERIZED Exercises supervision over maintenance as assigned. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Supervises Department employees, either directly or through subordinates. Determines work procedures, prepares work schedules, and expedites workflow. Issues written and oral instructions. Assigns duties and examines work for exactness, neatness, and conformance to policies and procedures. Studies and standardizes department procedures to improve efficiency and effectiveness of operations. Maintains harmony among workers. Adjust errors and complaints. Operates trucks ofvarious sizes and weights. Operates power equipment such as mechanized broom, back- hoe, digger, man-lift, dump truck, front loader, and snowplow. Operates mowers, and other small equipment. Works with crew digging ditches, pole holes, hoisting material, tools, equipment and any related work with back-hoe. Performs routine inspections and preventive maintenance on equipment, Cleans equipment. Installs and maintains traffic control devices such as signs. Performs all duties in conformance to safety and security standards. Maintains telephone contact with supervisor. Assists in preparation of bid specifications for vehicles and mechanical equipment. Must be willing to be on call 24 hours. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Education and Experience Graduation from high schoolor GED equivalent, a minimum of seven years' experience in construction industry or public sector, public works operations. Considerable knowledge of civil engineering principles, practices and methods applicable to a municipal setting. Thorough knowledge of applicable Borough policies, laws, and regulations affecting department activities. Considerable knowledge of heavy equipment operating principles, working knowledge of hazards and safety precautions common to heavy equipment operations, working knowledge of the methods, materials, and tools used in construction and repair work. Ability to operate and drive a variety of equipment under varying conditions. Ability to work from construction specifications or blueprints. Ability to classify soils and excavation sites. Ability to work safely. Ability to understand and carry out written and oral instructions. Skill in operating listed tools and equipment. Ability to communicate effectivelyverbaly and in writing. Ability to establish workingrelationshps with other employees, citizens, vendors, and elected officials of the Borough. Ability to read and write the English language fluently. The chairperson of streets will conduct a performance review after 6 months to determine if the probationary employee will be promoted to permanent status.
