MINUTES OF THE SHADE TREE COMMISSION OF THE BOROUGH OF SEWICKLEY September 3, 2024 The Shade Tree Commission (STC) convened on September 3, 2024, in Council Chambers. The meeting was called to order by Chairperson Kathy Brandt at 7:00 p.m. Ina attendance were: Members Kathy Brandt, Chairperson Andrew Frishkorn, Vice Chairperson Danielle Shinsky Chris Crayton, Secretary Mary. APPROVAL OF MINUTES STAFFING UPDATES None None August meeting minutes unanimously approved upon motion by Andrew. III. OLDBUSINESS IV. NEW/BUSINESS- ARBORIST REPORT & APPLICATIONS Tree Removal Program: Tyler has identified several trees that are to be added to the removal list. He will continue to inventory and monitor trees and add them to the lista as necessary. Tyler will coordinate with Public' Works for the removal oft the smaller trees Tree Maintenance Program: Tyler has continued to identify trees that need to be pruned in the GIS. The trees that are identified willl be added to the next pruning bid Tree Planting Program: Tyler hasi identified several available planting locations in the GIS. He will work with the Borough Manager and Public Works to determine the number and will add all other trees to the next removal bid package. package. of plantings that can be completed this fall. Application approved pending use of approved tree company. 328 Beaver St.: Application for removal of Borough tree. Arborist identified the tree as a Callery Pear andi is an invasive species. Application for removal approved at the owner's expense. The memorial plaque removal should be coordinated with Public' Works. The applicant is responsible for cost of the 527 Cochran St.: Application for the removal of three Borough trees. Arborist has previously noted these trees (1339,1338, &1337) as dead/dying. Application approved and trees will be added to the next removal bid 345 Thorn St.: Application for private tree removals. Arborist identified the Ailanthus as an invasive species. Application approved pending use of 318 Centennial Ave.: Previous application for Borough tree pruning. Tree will be added to next pruning bid package pending Tyler'svisit. Visitor: Maria Swanson (903 Centennial Ave.) visited the meeting for guidance on root care while renovating existing brick sidewalk. Tyler explained various methods of construction to reduce the impact on the tree roots. STC discussed possible revisions and updates to the Shade Tree Ordinance.
