MINUTES Troy Recreation Board Meeting Wednesday, July 17, 2024 4:00 p.m. Hobart Arena Members Present: Marty Hobart, President; Tom Dunn, Vice President; Ashley Reed, Secretary and Eric Herman. Lindsy Fisher. Members Absent: Others Present: Kenneth Siler, Director of Recreation and Charlotte Colley, Assistant Director of Public Service & Safety and Human Resources Director. The meeting was called to order by the President oft the Recreation Board, Marty Hobart. The minutes oft the. June 19, 2024 Troy Recreation Board meeting were read. It was moved by Mr. Dunn and seconded by Mr. Herman that the minutes be approved as read. Motion carried. The Director informed the board that Float Troy reservations are at 188 reserved tents for the summer sO far, which is down slightly from last year. They run through the first weekend in September. There is another 6 or 7 weeks left. Everything is going well. There hasn't! been a Youth Hockey: registrations are down slightly from last year. Barly bird registration ended this past Monday. Registrations are going well and numbers are on target where they should be. There were drop-in hockey sessions two times a week this summer. Try-outs are done. The department isi in the process of preparing for the annual hockey coaches meeting, which will be ini mid-August. It takes a significant amount of! preparation with a lot ofinformation that is required by USA Hockey. The Director will be ordering hockey. jerseys tomorrow. Two oft the three Treasure Island concerts have been held. The first one was prior to the last board meeting. It was very well attended. The. July 4th concert got through two-thirds oft the The Director informed the board that most oft the Recreational programs are winding down this week. Playground ends this week, baseball clinic is over, swim team championships are this Saturday in Versailles, swim lessons has one more session that starts next Monday and there is another week or two ofmusical theater. There are two goat yoga classes scheduled for August. The Director informed the board that the Troy Skating Club Summer Competition was held this past weekend. They may have tol look at doing some revisions in the future with theirs skating competition because US Figure Skating has changed their seasons of competitions and unfortunately the dates that they havel had for the last 40 years falls into the window between the significant number of nights that have been impacted by weather. show and was impacted by a storm that passed through. The Directori is working with the Miami County Veterans Department because next month they will bel holding a Veterans Symposium at the Arena throughout the day in thel Bravo Room and throughout the corridor. In the middle oft the afternoon Jessica Lynch, who was a POW during the Iraq war will be speaking at 2:00 p.m. After. Jessica Lynch speaks the building will be cleared and people will bel let back in for a free concert by Lee Greenwood, which will be at 6:00 p.m. that evening. There will be a Zach Williams concert in October. Tickets have been on sale for a couple of months. Trace Adkins was announced on Monday. Pre-sale: for Trace started today and the public sale willl bel held on Friday. The Director is planning to announce two Christmas shows on Friday. One is Home Free. They are an acapella group that has been at the arena on a few occasions in the past. The second is the Gaithers Holiday tour that will go on sale next week along with Home Free. There will be atl least 5 concerts in the 4th quarter of2 2024. The Troy Aquatic Park exceeded the goal of 500 season passes. Asoflast week, 514 season passes were sold plus 63 grandparent passes. The Tidal Waves Swim Team will participate in thel league championships this Saturday in Versailles. The team is 5-0. The Director anticipates The board reviewed a 2024 Troy Aquatic Park daily admissions and concessions report. Through July 15th admissions revenue is up about 25% compared to 2023 and concessions The Kid's' Triathlon will bel held this Sunday at the pool and on the bike path. The arena parking lot will be closed off. It will bel held from 8:00 a.m. until 12:00: noon. The: following weekend staffwill be working with DD for al kid's triathlon on Sunday. It will take up the south arena parking lot. Both events are: run by volunteers. Lifeguards volunteer as well. Maintenance staff has completed the west restroom renovation. All partitions are changed out and painting and caulking around the sink areas and countertops are almost done. The floors are The arena got the Zamboni back last week. Ith had significant repairs made toi it. The cost was approximately $18,000. It was not running properly SO the work had to be done. The Director is working on options for the condenser in the back on the refrigeration system. Last month the system went down. He is trying to get all details to make an educated decision on what to do to take the best approach to that. The other problem is the lights over the main rink floor have had significant failures with the light fixtures. They are, going out on a weekly basis. Staff can'torder enough to continue to replace them. They are $500 aj piece. About 20 have been replaced SO far. The Electrical Department is working with the arena's s lighting supplier to come up with a game plan. The fixtures are about 7 years old. Fixtures start blinking they will win the league which hasn't been done in the last 20 years. revenue is up about 18% compared to 2023. cleaned. Iti is scheduled to start the week of August 5th. Thel key to that has been the timeline oft the delivery of the equipment. The equipment is scheduled to arrive at that time. While thei icei is down, maintenance staff will be doing a lot ofthe annual maintenance projects. Charlotte Colley, Assistant Director of Public Service & Safety and Human Resources Director attended the board meeting. She and Ken have been working on needs for an additional Facility Operator at the arena, especially with the Facility Operator's schedule that they are currently working. She has communicated that with the Service and Safety Director and theyl have had some good conversations. The board asked Ken toj provide some data and information related to staffing schedules and coverage. It will be a conversation during thel budget process. Ken isi in the process of compiling some information for the board and Charlotte. Itv was moved by Mr. Hobart and seconded byl Mr. Herman that the board go into executive session to consider the appointment ofaj public employee. Motion carried.
