CITY OF SANTA FE SPECIAL MEETING SANTA FE CITY COUNCIL JULY 30, 2024 6:45P.M. COUNCIL CHAMBERS 12002 HWY. .6, SANTA FE, TEXAS MINUTES The meeting was called to order at 6:45 p.m. by Mayor Pro Tem Bubba Jannett. Roll Call: Present: Mayor Pro Tem Ronald "Bubba" Jannett Councilmember Rusty Schroeder Councilmember Ryan McCamy Councilmember John Dickerson Councilmember Dana Marks Mayor Brandon Noto, excused Absent: Business: 1. Consideration and possible action: A resolution of the City Council of the City of Santa Fe Texas, extending the disaster declaration issued by Mayoral Proclamation on July 8, 2024, and extended Council through Resolution 2024-18 on July 14, 2024, in response to Hurricane Beryl City Manager Alun Thomas explained that once the Mayor declares a disaster declaration, the disaster declaration can be in effect for up to one week and cannot be extended without the majority vote of the governing body for the entity. City Council extended the disaster declaration for Hurricane Beryl on July 14, 2024, which is set to expire on July31,20241 unless further extended by City Council. Mr. Thomas noted that the City's response to Hurricane Beryl is expected to continue for the next several weeks, andi recommended that Council extend the disaster declaration again, this time, to expire on September 15, 2024. By that time, it is believed that the City's response efforts will Police Captain Robert Shores addressed Council and gave a brief update on the status of the City's hurricane recovery efforts. Captain Shores, Street Superintendent Billy Creppon, and Mr. Thomas addressed questions from Counci, including the status of the woodchippers that the City had requested to help with debris management by chipping the organic material such as limbs and brush into mulch that can then be made available to the free pickup. Mr. Thomas informed Council that staff has been speaking with Mayor Noto, and are exploring public the option of having a professional wood chipping business come to the sites of the debris piles to the instead ofhaving City staff spending time doingi it. At the moment, he noted, it appears as though the chip cost difference wood, tot the City would be minimal, but worth the additionale expense given the opportunity costs of the Street Department's staff being unable to address its usual duties such as ditch maintenance and fixing potholes.
