AI motion was made by Alderman John Hinton to adopt Resolution 24-11 amending Planning Request for Grant: Façade, Sign and Landscaping Grant: Cool Breeze: Landscaping Planner Cullen said Cool Breeze campground's application is the first completed application Mr. Cullen said the Planning Department was approached by the owner of Cool Breeze Campground to discuss outstanding zoning matters from the previous owner. After discussion concerning screening requirements it was determined the Campground, as well as the Town as awhole, would benefit from the addition of a buffer along the East side. The property owner decided to make this a vegetative buffer with trees and bushes. The proposed trees will be a The project proposal includes the planting of twenty six-foot tall evergreen trees and twenty rhododendron bushes. The total project cost is estimated at $5,500 and the requested funding is $2,750. If the grant is approved, it will leave a balance of $37,250 in the economic development Mr. Cullen reviewed pictures and diagrams of the area where the trees and shrubbery would be placed. Assistant Town Planner Noah Taylor has been in charge of putting the event together and Mr. Wise said he has done a great job. He presented the Board with a tentative schedule and said there could be changes made up to 5:30 on Friday afternoon. He said there would be several speakers including Congressman Edwards and Senator Corbin. Mr. Wise willl bei reading al letter sent by the Governor. These were all Continue monitoring Johnathan Creek and stream banks for fallen and dead trees that could impact the Town's sewer creek crossings. This is now required by NCDEQ. Removed fallen trees and debris from Jonathan's Creek on Moody Farm Road, Stonebridge Grease in the Towns sewer collection system and in the Wastewater Treatment Plant is an ongoing and time-consuming problem. Regular grease trap pumping and maintenance is the key to keeping these problems to a minimum. All food handling businesses are required to have grease-removing equipment installed and toi mintinrendsofdleming andi maintaining their equipment. The sewer department staff regularly inspects this equipment and looks at records and logs oft this maintenance. This month we performed four grease trap inspections. Oft these 0 were found tol bei non-compliant. We continue to work with all businesses on their grease issues. Matthew Boger, Police Chief Incidents During the reporting month of June, the Maggie Valley Police Department (MVPD) investigated thirty incidents, which included Breaking and Entering, Larceny, Property Damage, Drug Violations, Simple Assault, Aggravated Assault, Motor Vehicle Theft, Disorderly Conduct, Trespassing, Weapon Law Violations, Fraud, and Kidnapping. Maggie Valley Police Officers arrested fourteen individuals, resulting in twenty-one charges, which included Larceny, Theft, Breaking and Entering, Property Damage, Driving While Impaired, Trespassing, Weapon Law Violations, Drug Violation, and Disorderly Conduct. Maggie Valley Police Officers investigated two motor vehicle accidents for the reporting period and issued one-hundred and forty-one traffic-related charges. Fifty-one-point one percent of charges were: for speeding (9 citations and 63 written warnings). THIS LIST IS NOT A COMPREHENSIVE LIST OF ALL THE INCIDENTS FOR THE REPORTING PERIOD. The suspect consented to Sgt. Flowers searching the phone. No illegal content was observed. The suspect requested a ride to the hospital and Sgt. Flowers provided Sergeant Wood and Officer Herbertson assisted the HCSO with a breaking and entering in progress. After HCSO arrived on scene, officers determined the suspect went to the wrong house. Due to al language barrier, thel homeowners misunderstood why the suspect was at their residence. Officers confirmed the next house had relatives oft the suspect a week prior. Sergeant Wood investigated a larceny at 3211 Dellwood rd. Upon arrival ai male and female suspect were. located. The: male had a concealed firearm on his person and stolen items in his vehicle. The male was charged with felony larceny as well as firearm violations. The female was charged with felony larceny and the property was returned to the owner. Officer Bellows responded to a civil disturbance at' Ted's Shack. The altercation was between the property owner and a construction company. Officer Bellows and Detective Crocker attempted toi resolve the incident peacefully. Ultimately the owner ofthe property was arrested Officer Bellows observed al known individual traveling on the sidewalk. After confirming the individual had warrants, Officer Bellows arrested him and transported him to HCSO to serve Officer Herbertson assisted the HCSO with a domestic call for service involving a firearm where the suspect had shot at deputies. The MVPD later received al letter of gratitude thanking Officer Herbertson investigated a child trafficking case. The victim was located in West Virginia and returned home. Since her return, additional information has been collected Officer Riddle assisted HCSO with an investigation of a shooting. When officer Riddle and Sergeant Wood arrived on scene the suspect had been shot multiple times. MVPD officers Officer Riddle assisted the HCSO with a motorcycle chase on Jonathan Creek. The suspect Officer Greene assisted NCSHP with a collision on Soco Mountain. NCSHP had an extended ETA and Officer Greene was able to locate the drivèr who had left the scene. Officer Greene Officer Greene located a suspicious person sleeping at Rathbone Park. The suspect was At the end ofJune, Officer Kelley and Officer Crowe began the FTO program as new officers Evidence Technicians O. Murphy and S. Justice processed eighteen items for the month. The owner was arrested for disorderly conduct after threatening bodily harm to the: subjects trying to move their vehicles from the parking lot. Detective Crocker responded to. an echo cardiac arrest of an elderly female. EMS and first responders worked the scene and declared the female deceased.
