EST A 1891 BRIGIIT FUTURE TOWN OF HOPE MILLS BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS Special Meeting Minutes -J July 29, 2024 6:00PM Meeting on Committees Mayor Jessie Bellflowers called the meeting of the Hope Mills Board of Commissioners to order on Monday, July 29, 2024 at 6:00 pm and welcomed those in attendance. STAFF PRESENT Coronda Regan Town Manager Chancer McLaughlin, Town Clerk Ashley Wyatt, and Deputy Town Clerk PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE APPROVAL OF AGENDA No changes made to agenda approve the agenda as presented. Mayor Jessie Bellflowers led the pledge of allegiance Motion by Commissioner Scarola seconded by Commissioner Legge and carried unanimously, to DISCUSSION for the evening. Mayor Bellflowers provided introductory remarks as to the purpose ofthe meeting and his goals Town Clerk Ashley Wyatt gave more details as to the committee overview document that was Commissioner Marley stated that he was satisfied with the number of people that were currently serving on each committee and was looking for clarification of that number for each. BOARD OF ADJUSTMENT Mr. McLaughlin gave an update on the Board of Adjustment and stated that there were no significant updates to be shared, other than that the board would only meet ift they needed to. CULTURAL ARTS COMMITTEE Mayor Pro Tem Dr. McCray stated that the committee was full and expressed concerns on the limited budget. She also mentioned reaching out to all oft the Art teachers in the community to possibly host an art exhibition for students. HISTORIC PRESERVATION COMMITTEE Sharon Reeves stated that the biggest goal ahead of the HPC was that they were working toward Mr. McLaughlin reiterated the process and projected timeline as tol how that goal would be becoming a commission again. achieved. HOMELESSNESS ADVISORY COMMITTEE Commissioner Craver discussed her ideas for the newly established committee. PRIME MOVERS COMMITTEE Mayor Pro Tem Dr. Kenjuana McCray stated that the she was interested in ways to get innovative young people to serve on the committee. She also advised that there was a member of the committee that would need to be removed at a future regular meeting. VETERANS AFFAIRS COMMITTEE were considering amending their bylaws. DEVELOPMENT COMMITTEE Commissioner Scarola stated that the committee needed to fill several vacancies and that they PROPOSAL AND CONSIDERATION OF ESTABLISHING AN ECONOMIC Motion by Mayor Pro Tem Dr. Kenjuana McCray. seconded by Commissioner Scarola and carried unanimously, to approve the Economic Development Committee and corresponding bylaws as Mr. McLaughlin spoke to recent knowledge he gained attending a conference of the NCBEMO that focused on other municipalities and how they were leveraging economic development.
