Officer Thompson is always available to assist in any way possible and has done a great job working in G-2. Officer Thompson has also taken it upon himself to get cleared in C-Main. Officer Thompson is encouraged to keep up the good work and continue to improve going forward. Congratulations Officer Thompson 8am-4pm Shift: Correctional Officer John Nicklas The 8-4 officer of the month for. January is Officer Nicklas. Officer Nicklas has shown himself to be able to handle any situation professionally and efficiently. He continues to workthe Intake Housing unit and excels ati identifying issues and communicating the problems to both his supervisorsand/or: appropriate offices. Officer Nicklas continues to show his professionalism in his ability to effectively communicate with the inmate population. He is also quick to identify any security related issues and continually acts accordingly to ensure that these issues are addressed in at timely manner. 4pm-12am Shift: K-9 Officer Michael Withka The 4-12 Supervisors would like to nominate K-9 Officer Michael Withka for the January Officer of the Month. K-9 Officer Withka is not only an asset to the K-9 team but also the prison. He is always pleasant tos speak with and always willing to go above and beyond. K-9 Officer' Withka andl his partner "Beny" assist with the safety of staff and inmates through their thorough work. The 4-12 Shift is more than grateful to have K-9 Officer Withka and his partner on shift and we commend them both on a continued job well done. Staffing Updates: Currently there are (3) Sergeant vacancies and (1) Captain vacancy, which is currently in the selection process. It should also be noted that 12 new correctional officers are in training. We are pleased to announce the promotion of Lt. Bradley Whittaker to the rank of Captain. Garcia - Classification Specialist Classification Specialist Loida Garcia continues to dol her daily duties associated with the classification office. Garcia, L continues to complete a daily move sheet, checks the board in commitment for open cells, and conducts a board check to correct and match movement in UCM. In commitment also helps with inmates that need intakes done to move: straight to general population due to their status. Garcia L. reviews the inmates in G-1 (intake unit) and moves them to their appropriate housing areal based on their security classification level, behavior, PREA review, otheri information received from internal investigation and or outside law enforcement agencies, and the needs ofthe prison. Garcia, L. also makes moves upon the request from other counselors and departments such as work release, ITP, and medical. Garcia, La alsoreviews requests from inmates pertaining to moves and when appropriate interviews inmates to determine ifa move is necessary. Garcia, L. also assisted with translating for the Commitment unit, Inmates, family members of inmates and others that only speak Spanish. D. Valenzuela - Classification Specialist Specialist Valenzuela, D completed his assigned duties as Classification Specialist which consist of: Daily review ofallt the docket sheets sent electronically by thel Records Dept. which facilitate the completion of the Initial Inmate Classification Assessment. In addition, Specialist Valenzuela reviews and collects the data directly from the inmate's1 legal folders from the Records filing room. On the same token, Specialist Valenzuela completed the reclassification ofa all the inmates incarcerated at the institution in the last three-month period.. Also, Counselor Valenzuela answered inmate's requests forre-classification. as well as general requests from all the housing units. Lastly, Valenzuela has been providing training for newly hired treatment staff. C.Garner- Inmate Services Specialist Inmate Services Specialist Garner responds to inmate questions on housing unit G-1. She isi responsible for ALL G-1 intakes. She provides inmates with an orientation of general rules, and specific information pertaining to Lancaster County Prison inmate procedure. She also provides information on PREA procedures within the facility. She continues to call, e-mail and holds conference calls with various inmates' attorneys, as well as Adult Probation and Parole services. Counselor Garner assists inmates in obtaining information about their cases including court dates, communicating with their attorneys, parole plans, Sentencing dates and Birth certificates and social security cards. Counselor Garner also clears inmates off status and moves inmates out ofG-1. She also gives new commits (G-1) an intake packet. It provides, visitation times and days for every block, hands out an ITP application, if inmates want to participate in the program, a suicidal hotline paper, and information on rehabs, jobs, food, health insurance and many other benefits in thel Lancaster area. She also conducts 30-day PREA: reviews for G-1. B. Morrison - Drug & Alcohol Specialist D/A Specialist Morrison is now assigned to the 3-1 housing unit of Lancaster County Prison. Specialist Morrison will be providing D/A programs within LCP to inmates of POD's 3-2,3-5, and MHU. These classes will be held 3-4 days a week. Specialist Morrison has been attending D/A meetings weekly within our treatment department in LCP. Until the: start of the class work and other D/Arelated duties, Specialist Morrison does meet with multiple inmates daily on POD3-L.Questions answered normally involve court dates, docket information, treatment options, etc. Inmate Specialist Morrison will assist inmates who need help setting up intakes for treatment facilities, and relay information to other entities of the prison, if necessary. Ifinitial intakes for Lancaster County Prison need conducted, Specialist Morrison will assist in completing these intakes. Specialist Morrison also assists with other blocks and classification duties, as needed. IS Morrison also facilitates phone conferences with attorneys, case managers, and other important calls. Specialist Morrison does use Securusand' UCM daily and enters notes regardinge everything that happens daily. Specialist Morrison has assisted with classification (move sheets and classifying) when designated to doso. Whena assigned duties to classification, IS Morrison will assist in classification throughout the morning, then appear on POD3-1 for the afternoon. IS Morrison has assisted inmates with legal calls, docket information, and other vital concerns throughout POD 3-1. IS Morrison assists anywhere else as requested throughout the facility and is willing to help when necessary. Specifically in the month of January 2024, IS Morrison did assist with training new treatment staffwith daily treatment functions. K. Ortiz = Bilingual Inmates Services Specialist Bilingual Inmate Service Specialist, Karaliz Ortiz responds to femaleinmate requests, as well as direct assistance to inmates needs: such as court dates, fast tracks, door to door,rehabs, classes, and questions about different resources in an outside of the institution (LCP). In addition, I Counselor Ortiz assist Spanish speaking inmate throughout the prison. On the same token, Specialist Ortiz conducts initial intakes for newly committed inmates, and provides inmates with applications and information for the different program and services offered in the institution such as, vivitrol, medical assistance, and drug and alcohol applications. Specialist Ortiz also answers phone calls from family members with questions like visits, and phone calls due to not having funds in theiri inmate account for over. 30 days of been incarcerated or request a free call. Specialist Ortiz is also helping several inmates with information on the re-entry and work release programs within the prison. Specialist Ortiz also conducts 30 days PREA reviews and PREA informational video or sheet for all female inmates. Specialist Ortiz also has been facilitating pre- approved and pre-scheduled phone conferences with public defenders, CYS employees as well as with other states, and counties which are unable to communicate or travel. Lastly, Specialist Ortiz provides notaries services to inmates throughout the prison. K. Abenshon Inmate Services Specialist Abenshon returns to Treatment after a 2.5-year hiatus. After an initial training period, she took over responsibilities for Female Block 2-5 in Specialist Ortiz'sabsence, and shares responsibilities for block 3-5 with other specialists. Specialist Abenshon completes initial intake interviews for every female which consist ofas series of questions that screen for criminogenic needs and risk assessments. Recommendations for programs are made based on information gleaned in the intake interviews. She discusses programs offered inside and outside the prison with each inmate based on their assessments. She assists with completingapiations for specialty courts, Vivitrol, New Beginnings, and medical assistance, just to name a few. She provides applications for birth certificates and social security cards. She serves as liaison between Public Defenders, Paid Attorneys, Probation & Parole, Bail Bondsmen, CYS, recovery houses and treatment facilities and the inmates; often facilitating phone calls between the two. She works cooperatively with Medical, Mental Health, Reentry, Pre-Parole and Security; often advocating for the inmates. She updates the weekly AA list for 2-5. Specialist Abenshon completes 30-day PREA reviews and provides an informational PREA video to each inmate. Specialist Abenshon answers daily requests from inmates via Securus. E. Mosely-P.R.E.A. Caseworker P.R.E.A. Caseworker Mosely is assigned to Housing units G-2 and The Medical Housing Unit. Caseworker Mosely has answering and addressing inmate requests about their needs with court dates, questions about mental/drug court and family issues. Caseworker Mosely Answers all PREA related requests and reports them to. Inmate Services Specialist Warfel as need be. Caseworker Mosely doesa assist with intakes and other housing units as needed. He conducts 30 days PREA reviews for all inmates housed in G-2 and MHU. He also has facilitated phone conferences with public defenders, private attorneys, judges from any agency as needed. He does assist re-entry whenever possible by finding housing and rehabs for those inmates that are in need. Case Worker Mosely has also assisted with MISA and other mental health programs throughout the county. He assisted with mental health court CYS caseworkers from Lancaster and other counties. PREA Caseworker Mosely assisted with the education ofr new and current staff on PREA Policy and guidelines. Mosely has assisted staff with understanding Special Statuses fori inmate as well as how to address these statuses. D. Miller- Drug and Alcohol Inmate Specialist Mr. Miller is a General Inmate Specialist assigned to Blocks 2-1. Mr. Miller assists inmates with obtaining identification such as Social Security Cards and Birth Certificates. He also coordinates phone calls and emails between inmates and their attorneys, probation officers and representatives: from social service agencies. Mr. Miller also helps inmates access different educational opportunities within the prison such as drug and alcohol classes, a re-entry focused class called "New Beginnings" and other psychoeducational classes. Mr. Miller also helps inmates with their transition to the community by helping with home plans and accessing post incarceration treatment options such as rehabs, halfway houses or recovery houses. Mr. Miller responds toi inmate requests through thej prison communication system, Securus. He was hired: in Octobert tol beal Drug and Alcohol Inmate Specialist. Hel began his duties in his new position on October 23rd. His responsibilities in the new position will include teaching D&A classes within the prison and offering on one sessions with inmates. A. VanDyke- Inmate Trustee Coordinator Ms. VanDyke oversees the Inmate Trustee Program (ITP) at Lancaster County Prison. She is responsible for reviewing files, hiring, disciplinary, termination reviews, omboarding/orientation, pay roll for trustees, and assisting with any demands for the kitchen, supply, and floor cleaners. Ms. VanDyke assists with. JNET warrant searches for specific positions in ITP and works with inmates on Ms. VanDyke is the Treatment Specialist assigned to C-Main, D-Block, and D-Block Annex housing units. She provides support, coordinate phone calls between inmatesa and other county agencies, such the blocks to clear any MDJ level warrants or open dockets. as public defenders, CYS, treatment facilities, etc. At the end ofOctober, Ms. VanDyke will nol longer be assigned to assist D-Block/D-Block Annex and will be working with inmates housed in the Ad-Seg housing unit. Ms. VanDyke is responsible for weekly PREAS on her housing units. Andrew Brommer Mr. Brommer: is the General Inmate Specialist assigned to the G-2/Restrictive Housing Unit. He has the task of assisting inmates on all kinds of "special statuses." He also takes care of assisting with most inmate request regarding a variety ofi issues, due to the majority oft the inmates not having the same level of access since they are on a restrictive status. He sets up phone calls for probation, attorney's and even family. He will conduct numerous reviews for these inmates throughout their stay in the RHU, in order to remove them from any additional status's they may be on due to their behavior or previous actions. He will conduct intakes for new commitments as well as PREAI reviews for those whol have already been incarcerated for 30 or more days. Approved by) Board of Commissioners The Lancaster County Board of Commissioners: approved the Lancaster County Correctional Facility program ati its February 7, 2024, Commissioners meeting. The program will serve as a guide for the design team to use in developing the LCCF design. As the design progresses, the design team will encounter conditions such ass site constraints, building adjacencies, technology upgrades and changingi industry standards that could alter elements such as square: footages included within the program. And, while the document was approved by the Commissioners, there has not been an official vote taken on the size or budget for the project. The current direction from the Commissioners is toj plan for a facility to supporta core of1,2121 beds with an initial build ofapproximately 1,0001 beds. Additionally, the Commissioners agreed to allow the project team to furtherinvestigate the opportunity for Central Booking within the new facility. The final program reporthas been posted to the project website, www.rcl-pa.com. Facility Design TranSystems and its subconsultants are in the first phase of design oft the new facility, schematic design, and will use thej programming document to guide their process. ###
