Minutes of Regular Meeting Mayor and Council City of Fitzgerald, Georgia August 12, 2024 6:00 p.m. AF Public Hearing was held to give consideration to application number 0161 by Deborah R. Finley, for an amendment of the zoning ordinance for the City of Fitzgerald. It is desired and requested that the following properties by annexed as follows: 148 Newcomer Trl, legal description 68 26E to rezone 0.84 acres of said property from R-15 County to R-15 City. With no one to speak on this application, the public hearing was closed. Al Public Hearing was held to give consideration to application number 0162 by' Vicki. Jackson, for an amendment of the Zoning Ordinance for the City of Fitzgerald. Itis desired and requested that the following properties be annexed as follows: 302 304 W. Alapaha St. better known as! 510 N. Johnston St., legal description B2 S14L7+to rezone 0.31 acres of said property from R-6 City to R-6-M City. With no one to speak on this application, the public hearing was closed. Mayor and Council met on Monday, August 12, 2024, at 6:00 p.m. at the City Hall Council Chambers, located at 302 East Central Avenue, with Mayor. Jason L. Holt presiding and with Council members Brown, Clemons, D.. Jefferson, S.. Jefferson, J.J Johnson, K.J Johnson, Peavey, Roberts and Webb being present. Mayor Holt greeted everyone at the meeting and thanked them for attending. Minutes of previous meeting, July 8, 2024, Regular Council meeting were presented. Mayor Holt entertained a motion for approval. Council member Robets made a motion to approve minutes, seconded by Council member Brown. With there being no additions or corrections, Mayor Holt Under hearing from citizens and visitors, Mayor Holt called on Katherine Lewis of 806 E Palm Mayor Holt called on Keith Morris, DLS Director, to come forward. Keith asked the swim team state champions to come forward. Coach, Jennifer Shoultz, mentioned there were 41 swimmers on the team, 32 went to district and 31 went to State competition. Fain Heitzman won the 25- yard butterfly and his first state title; Coley Beth Croft won the 100 free and 50 butterfly; Maci Shoultz won the 100 IM and her first state title; Madi Shoultz won the 50 Breast stroke and her 7th state title. There was one relay, age! 9-10 boys medley relay woni first and the team consisted of Rob Ashe, Nehemiah Billingsley, Grayson Cooper and Liam Heitzman. We had 6 state runner ups, 10 third place finishes and finished third place as a team. Congratulations to all the Swim called for a Roll Call Vote: 9 Ves, 0 No. All inj favor, motion approved. Street to stand. Ms. Lewis submitted a written letter to council. Team participants. A communication was read from Daniel L. Gwinn on commendation for the Fitzgerald Fire Department. Mayor Holt noted that we almost lost an entire block due tot the fire mentioned on SGrant Street. All the department and the volunteers deserve the acknowledgement as well. Under reports of city officers, Mayor Holt mentioned the administrative report. He mentioned some highlights: East Coast paving is here working on our streets. We are close to finishing Boggus Park and the Splash pad. There has been work done on the 3rd Ward School that houses the Christian Kitchen and Family Connection. We have experienced some issues with the lights on the chicken. On our AED's, Narcan has now been provided to be on hand. The police had a busy month. Lots of rain in July. The timber obstructions for the airport have been cleared. Thanked the City Chaplain for being on hand to be with the police and fire departments this past Committee reports were given by the respective chair persons. Mayorl Holt notedi that thel budget process has begun for FY'25. All department chairs gave their reports and Council Person Jimmy Johnson presented a "snapshot" from the library. Johnson inquired on a survey of the land and this is part oft the application process. This would create a spot zone and this was denied by the planning and zoning board. Under New Business: Councilman Kevin Johnson mentioned getting a copy of the ARPA funding listing again. Monitor and Seaboard side park fencing is overgrown with weeds and the Seaboard side fencing is destroyed. The bridge at the Blue and Gray Park needs to be looked at. Grass on Monitor at Monitor and. Jacksonville highway is very high and needs to be cut. Mrs. Young mentioned the ARPAfunds to Kevin. Not sure what else we can provide. These funds were put in the general fund and used for revenue loss. There is not a list, per say, of what was done with the money. Council did approve the premium pay and several projects were done with the money from these funds. Kathy invited Councilman Kevin Johnson by her office to go Mayor Holt mentioned we are waiting response from the County to help with our joint service repairs. The legion park kitchen is one project that we will have to do as the flooring is a risk for SPLOST joint services is split 50/50 and we don'thave full amount to move forward. be subject to rezoning if thati is what the buyer would want. through this information again. the employees and we hope that the county will assist.
