RESOLUTION CALLING SPECIAL REFERENDUM TO INCREASE THE MEMBERSHIP Whereas, the Cherokee County Board of Commissioners has spent a significant amount of time over the last three years reviewing and discussing the composition of the Cherokee County Board of Commissioners (the "Board") in order to make an educated decision as to whether any changes in the Whereas, as a result of these discussions, it is of the opinion of the Cherokee County Board of Whereas, the two (2) additional members should be elected "at large" by all of the residents of Whereas, the Board desires that the issue of increasing the number of County Commissioners from three (3) to five (5) be placed on the ballot as a special referendum to be voted on by the residents of Whereas, in placing the issue of altering the composition of the Board of Commissioners, the Board NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CHEROKEE COUNTY BOARD OF OFTHE CHEROKEECOUNTY BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS Board's composition should be made; and Commissioners should be increased from three (3) to five (5) members; and Cherokee County; and Cherokee County; and, must comply with $153A-60. COMMISSIONERS that: 1.A A special referendum be called on the adoption of the alteration to the structure of the Board and thei issue be placed on the ballot at the general election tol be held on November 2, 2010 as "Shall the structure of the board of commissioners be altered to increase the number of follows: DYES ONO" commissioners from three (3) to five (5)? 2. Ifthe citizens of the County vote in favor of increasing the number of commissioners to five (5), then during the 2012 general election cycle, there shall be an election to fill the two (2) new seats. The two (2) new seats shall be nominated and elected "at large"; and shall serve a four-year term, with the other three (3) seats filled by the incumbent county commissioners, who shall serve out the remainder of their four-year terms.
