HANOVER BOROUGH SHADE TREE COMMISSION MINUTES April 1, 2024 Chairman Rohrbaugh convened the meeting of the Hanover Borough Shade Tree Commission at 9:00 AM Monday morning, April 1, 2024 in the Hanover Municipal Attendance: In attendance were Shade Tree Commission members Rohrbaugh and Weaver; staff members Secretary Felix, Public Works Director Grimm and Parks & Approval of the Minutes: It was moved by Mrs. Weaver seconded by Ms. Rohrbaugh Building, 44 Frederick Street, Hanover, Pennsylvania, as advertised. Public Comment: Thomas Maus, 1028 Broadway: Mr. Maus advocated to keep his pear tree in the public right of way because it is currently blooming and he stated that it protects his home from vehicle damage. Public Works Director Grimm noted that the tree was damaged on the side and base. Chairman Rohrbaugh will refer the matter to Mr. Leyes, Bartlett Tree Arbor Day 2024: The annual Arbor Day celebration will be held Wednesday, April 24, 2024 at 10:15. AM, Children's Room 2nd Floor, Guthrie Memorial Library, 2 Library Place. There will be a photo shoot for the tree planting at the 200 block of York Street with the The 4 Japanese zelkova trees donated by Hanover Auto Team will be planted at 220, 222, 238 and 520 York Street. The Garden Club will donate an Okame Cherry Tree to Experts to evaluate the tree and make a recommendation. Mr. Leyes from Bartlett Tree Experts will recommend species after analyzing Tree Removal Public Hearings: It was moved by Mr. Weaver, seconded by Ms. Rohrbaugh to table the pear tree removal for 1028 Broadway due to the property's owner's request to keep the tree. Public Works Director Grimm noted the rotting base and large tree wound on the side make the tree a hazard. Chairman Rohrbaugh will contact 945 East Walnut Street: Chairperson Rohrbaugh will contact Mr. Leyes from Bartlett Tree Public Works Director Report: Public Works Director Grimm reported the following: soil samples of the area. Mr. Leyes for an evaluation of the tree's health. Motion carried. Experts and ask him to report back on treatment options. Attlesberger Park: Public Works Director Grimm reported that crews trimmed back a black walnut tree which they noticed was partially uprooted. They wanted to prune it heavily prior to the anticipated heavy rains to prevent the tree from falling. Acontractor will need to be hired to remove the tree at 206 Broadway due to size.
