CITY OF SCHULENBURG SCHULENBURG, TX August 6, 2024 The City Council of the City of Schulenburg met in a Budget Workshop on Tuesday, August 6, 2024, at 6:30 P.M. int the Council Chambers located at 607 Upton Avenue, Schulenburg, Texas. The elected officials present included Mayor, Connie Koopmann, Alderwoman, Kathy Kleiber, Aldermen, Greg Thomas, Frank Wick III, Roger Moellenberndt, and Clarence Ahlschlager. City Staff present were City Administrator, Tami Walker, Operations Manager, Darryl Moeller, Police Chief, Troy Brenek, Accounts Payable/Municipal Court Clerk, Julie Cernosek, and City Secretary, Mason Florus. Visitors included Ivân Velasquez Mayor Koopmann called role. Mrs. Walker began the workshop by handing out the latest budget sheets. Mrs. Walker noted that a few small cuts were made including the X41 ton Operations Manager truck. Mrs. Walker stated the budget is "bare bones." Itis is the few projects planned that are expensive and the bulk of the budget. However, if this year's projects run over, the City may have to take out the College Street Project. only $500. Mayor Koopmann inquired why Pilot is being charged $600 for open top pick ups and the Texan Operations Manager, Darryl Moeller, replied that we just started with the Texan, we will goupon Alderwoman Kleiber asked if we have to cover the budget deficit with reserves, what does the Mrs. Walker replied that it's hard to tell until September 30th. Mrs. Walker added that she doesn't want the reserves to dip below 4.5 Million because the City would need at least 6 months of Alderman Wick inquired if the City needs toi increase the employees' boot allowance. Mrs. Walker replied she can send Council the current educational benefits and stipends and if them next year. City have right now in reserves. payroll and payables in case of emergencies. Council has any suggestions, it can be an upcoming agenda item. Mayor Koopmann asked if the City received the AEP monies yet. Mrs. Walker answered no, that should be approximately $650,000 and should hit after October 1st, helping the budget. Mayor Koopmann asked for further comment. There was none. Mayor Koopmann instructed City Staff to present the budget to the public. Alderwoman Kleiber made a motion, seconded by Alderman Moellenberndt, to adjourn the meeting at 7:10. The motion passed unanimously.
