CITY OF SCHULENBURG SCHULENBURG, TX August 19, 2024 The City Council of the City of Schulenburg met in regular session on Monday, August 19, 2024, at 6:30 P.M. in the Council Chambers located at 607 Upton Avenue, Schulenburg, Texas. The elected officials present included Mayor, Connie Koopmann, Alderwoman, Kathy Kleiber, Aldermen, Frank Wick III, Roger Moellenberndt, and Clarence Ahlschlager. City Staff present were City Administrator, Tami Walker, Operations Manager, Darryl Moeller, and City Secretary, Visitors included Layne Vyvjala of the Schulenburg Sticker, Pastor Lemae Higgs, Joanne Prihoda-Rogers with Cutright & Prihoda Architects, Chase Hodges, Cindy Wingo, Joshua Mayor Koopmann called role. Inc, out of Victoria Hodges Construction, out of Smithville Gaeke Construction, out of Giddings Mrs. Prihoda-Rogers stated that her firm worked with K&T and Gaeke in the past, and are currently working with Hodges. Mrs. Walker recommended Monday, September 16th at 6:00 P.M. at the Council Chambers. Alderman Wick made a motion, seconded by Alderwoman Kleiber, to accept Mrs. Walker's recommendation and set the Budget Public Hearing. The motion passed unanimously. Mrs. Walker led discussion on Amending an Ordinance Revising and Setting Rates for Water Mrs. Walker elaborated that City Staff discussed these changes with Council at the budget workshop. Water rates will increase by $2 to aid with the leak detection equipment, and sewer rates will increase by $1for minimum customer charge. Mrs. Walker then read the ordinance. Alderman Moellenberndt made a motion, seconded by Alderman Wick, to accept the ordinance. Mrs. Walker led discussion on Amending an Ordinance Revising and Setting Rates for Garbage Mrs. Walker announced that the customer charge was increasing $3. There will be a $2 increase for additional totters, a $2 increase to small commercial, and limb and leaf curbside pickups will now be $40 per load. Mrs. Walker then read the ordinance. The new garbage truck's steps were modified to be safer for riders 11 open tops and 8 boxes of sludge were hauled Sewer Department worked on a clarifier that was down Water Department worked on water leaks along 77 and throughout town Parks Department worked on irrigation system leaks and started trimming trees Mayor Koopmann asked if this new garbage truck is longer than the others. Moeller answered yes, it holds about 5 more tons so hopefully it'll last the whole route. It also has larger tires to prevent tearing up the streets.
