He advised the road needs repaired. He asked if at least the middle section of the road Raenada Mason, Small Business Administration, advised due to Hurricane Beryl being declared a Federal Disaster, there is Federal assistance available. She advised of the funding that is available. Ms. Mason advised they are set up att the Orange County Convention and Expo Center Logan! He advised he would like to help Orange become a stronger town and to help Orange grow. He addressed several concerns hel has about Orange. Acopy oft this Dr. Marilyn Guidry, Assistant Director of Research and Data Management, Center for Resiliency, Lamar University, advised she is pleased to be involved int this process. Dr. Guidry advised she lives close to Levingston Park and thati it is a' "diamond in the rough" and iti is worth thei investment. Mary Bernard, Coordinator of the Big Thicket Biosphere Reserve, advised they are the Levingston Park Restoration Committee consisting of conservationists from Hardin, Jefferson and Orange Counties. She advised they prepared the proposed plan as connecting the City of Orange along Adams Bayou in a waterway greenway. Ms. Bernard advised they envision the park as a natural artery extending from the freeway to greenway with padding trails, birdwatching facilities, fishing piers, and much more. She advised Levingston Park will always be available to the residents of Orange and has the potential to attract more visitors and naturalists to appreciate Orange. He advised he received a call regarding Gloria Street. He advised there is a pot hole that needs to be repaired. Council Member Saltert thanked everyone who helpedy witht the Covel RecreationArea. She advised the Blues Festival was very nice. She advised she received a call regarding citizens parking on the lawn at Sunset Park. She asked citizens to please do not park on the lawn. Regular Meeting 7 August 13, 2024 Mayor Spears thankedi thet following Orange EconomicD Development Corporation Directors fortheir hard work and dedication; Tramena Horn, Margaret Hope-Adams, Jason Rodrigue and George Mortimer. He thanked all the entities who participated in the "Back to School Orange". He also thanked the citizens who spoke during Citizen Comments and advised the Council will work with them. Mayor Spears advised the City is about to experience a time where a lot of decisions will have to be made regarding the budget, which has not had to be done in the last 6 years he has been Mayor. He advised the City has had an adverse effect due tot the economy and the City has not had to raise the tax rate since he has been Mayor. He advised there has been a decline in sales tax, people shopping locally and the closure of Invista and International Paper, which has effected the budget. He advised the City will be transparent and find a way to do what is best for Mr. Kunst advised when Council comes out of the Closed Executive Session, they will set the tax Mayor Spears advised Council is only setting the ceiling for the rate, the highest it can go, not the the City. cap, not the rate. tax rate.
