Senior. Advisory Board August 5, 2024 The Bedford Senior Advisory Board met in regular session on the 5th of August, 2024, with thet following members present: Gina Day, Chairperson Patty Blum, Vice Chairperson Lucy Snearley, Secretary Christina Schlueter Becky Ferrell Carl Miller Ida Powell Constituting a quorum. Also attending were: Mark Long, Parks & Recreation Director Caryn Riggs, Assistant City Manager Janell Denton, Senior Supervisor Rob Gagliardi, Council Liaison Absent Hunter Hardeman, Recreation Manager CALLTO ORDER PUBLIC COMMENTS None Gina Day, Chairperson, called the meeting to order at 4:04 PM. APPROVAL OFI MINUTES 1. Christina Schlueter moved to accept the minutes as written for the. June 3, 2024 regular meeting. Patty Blum seconded and the motion passed unanimously. NEW BUSINESS 2. Discussion of upcoming volunteer opportunities Janell Denton asked for members of the advisory board to volunteer for three upcoming events. Senior Appreciation Dayi is August 16th and several people will need to assist with greeting participants, checking each room for needs, helping serve meals, etc. HEB Senior Games are at the Hurst Senior Center on September 13th and many' volunteers will be needed on that day for the multitude of events that take place simultaneously. The Annual thanksgiving Lunch is November 15th, and again, volunteers are needed to assist with greeting and checking in participants and other duties as needed. Gina Day reported that the Senior Synergy Expo is teaming up with Empowering Seniors this year and will take place at the Will Rogers Exhibit Hall on August 29th. This is a free event forall seniors and caregivers. Last year's expo was attended by more than 2500 people and is Ida Powell would like to have more cooperation between the city and the YMCA regarding seniors. She suggested that going forward, every agreement be made in writing. Lucy Snearley expressed frustration at the lack of communication from the YMCA and the fact that the Active Older Adult programs are not being promoted. The result is that the activities are very poorly attended and it appears that the YMCA doesn't want these programs to succeed. 3. Discussion and possible action to move or cancel the September meeting due to the Labor Day Christina Schlueter moved to hold the next meeting September 9th at 4:00 PM: and Lucy expected to be larger this year. holiday. Snearley seconded. Motion passed unanimously. OLDI BUSINESS 4. Future Senior Center Update Mark Long presented pictures oft the progress that has been made to the building. The workers are moving very quickly. Walls have been opened up, the main hallway has been widened, rest rooms are framed in with many oft the other areas. After it is completed, everything willl be moved from OBS to the new building. All activities will cease for 2or 3 days while this is being done. Going forward, all senior activities will be held at the new building with the exception of movies. Those will still take place at the auditorium at OBS which is appropriate and comfortable. Christina Schlueter suggested that trainers should show people how to safely use the exercise equipment before being allowed to use it. 5. The next scheduled meeting oft the Senior Advisory Board willl be September 9, 2024. Adjournment There being no further business, Christina Schlueter moved to adjourn the meeting and Ida Powell seconded. The motion passed unanimously and the meeting was adjourned at 4.59P PM.
