BOROUGH OF SLATINGTON The Water, Sewer/Solid Waste, and Highway Committee Workshop Meetings were held on January 23,2023 in Municipal Building, 125 South Walnut Street, Slatington, PA. The meeting was called to order by President Bartholomew at 6:30 PM with the following in attendance: PRESENT Thomas Bartholomew Joseph Wechsler-via phone Bryon Reed Jeffrey Hausman-arrived at 7:05 PM PUBLIC COMMENT: None A. HIGHWAY ABSENT OTHERS Mayor Schoch Justin Gross Daniel Stevens VISITORS Ron Hausman Krystall Borman Kevin Borman Jeffrey Hausman - Chairman; Members: Joseph Wechsler, Bryon Reed 1. Committee Member Discussion: a. The committee reviewed 3 quotes for the generator at the maintenance building. Manager Stevens received an updated quote from BEI with an increase of $500.00. Two of the quotes recommend we obtain modules. Manager Stevens explained that the modules would control the load and prevent overloading the generator. Manager Stevens will try to obtain more quotes for hooking the gas line to the generator. President Bartholomew would like this placed on the next regular council agenda. b. The committee reviewed a quote from Szoke Brothers, Inc. for the Maple Spring drain grate for $3,100.00. Councilor Reed asked if the borough has to do more work to fit Szoke's grate. Councilor Reed suggested to have Justin Gross look at it. Councilor Reed asked ift the grants would be included in this grate. Councilor Reed would like this Authorization to proceed with preliminary engineering letter dated 12/2/2022 for the Walnut Street bridge. Manager Stevens stated there are some discrepancies in the signed agreement, and what PennDOT told him at the utilities meeting. Manager Stevens added that Verizon would have to splice all of their copper lines, which would add to d. Councilor Reed made a motion, duly seconded by Councilor Wechsler, to amend the agenda to add a quote from BEI Electrical for repairs to the flashing light on Rte 873. President Bartholomew declared the motion passed following a Voice Vote, Alli in Favor. Councilor Reed stated this is the light coming into Slatington heading southbound. This is the flashing light north of Rentschler's. President Bartholomew would like this placed placed on the next committee meeting agenda. extending the project. on the next regular council agenda. Committee Member Discussion: 1 a. Councilor Wechsler stated that we need to start looking into hiring a floater. This person would have to be willing to work on getting a license for the sewer plant. Also, this person would be used for multiple locations. President Bartholomew would like this b. Update on digester lid removal project. Manager Stevens stated that the contract was signed after the award oft the bid. He also said there is aj pre-construction meeting with placed on the next committee agenda. the contractor on January 30th. Being no further questions from the committee members, the Sewer Committee meeting was adjourned. CWATIRSPICALSEMERK COMMITTEE 1. Committee Member Discussion: Bryon Reed - Chairman; Members: Jeffrey Hausman, Joseph Wechsler a. Update on water main breaks and repairs. Councilor Reed stated there was a water main break just before Christmas on Kuehner Ave and one on Rte 873 and both have been repaired. There was also al larger one on Welshtown Rd which has also been repaired. b. Update on the AutoCon project. Justin Gross stated that the bidder is still working on The committee reviewed the Essex Service Corporation Radio Service Contract. Councilor Reed pointed out that the borough would still be responsible for any repairs. Councilor Reed suggested waiting until the AutoCon project is completed before possibly committing to this contract. President Bartholomew suggested this bet tabled. d. Training for fire department on operation of fire hydrants. Kevin Borman (fire department) stated that training for the hydrants is done, but not with the water on. Manager Stevens informed Kevin that he must notify the Water Department when the fire department does train using a live hydrant. The borough would like Steve or Mike to attend the training to explain the water system to the fire company. filling out the paperwork.
