BOROUGH OF SLATINGTON The Finance Planning/Zoning, Public Safety and Human/Community Services Committee Workshop Meetings were held on November 20, 2023, in the Council Room, 125 South Walnut The meeting was called to order by President Bartholomew at 6:301 PM with the following in Street, Slatington, PA 18080. attendance: PRESENT Thomas Bartholomew Ronald Kratz-phone Kevin Steckel Zachari Halkias ABSENT OTHERS PRESENT VISITORS Jeffrey Hausman, Ron Hausman Rob Reph, Paige Reph Kevin Borman, Krystall Borman Ron Humanick Jeralyn Schoch Daniel Stevens PUBLIC COMMENT: None A. FINANCE/PLANNINGIZONING Ronald Kratz - Chairman; Members: Kevin Steckel, Zachari Halkias 1. Committee Member discussion on listed topics: a. The committee discussed and ordinance to possibly ban to cannabis and strip clubs for Slatington Borough. Solicitor Lisa Young will provide guidance for termination of said vices individually or as one collective item. Impact on Northern Lehigh Multimunicipal Zoning Plan. An ordinance has been advertised for the vape shops. Manager Stevens stated that Slatington, Washington Township, Heidelberg Township, Lynn Township, Weisenberg, and Lynn are in the Multimunicipal zoning plan. Manager Stevens stated that someone will have to take each allowed use. The undesirable ones are basically split up sO that each municipality does not have totake everything. The committee agreed to place this on the next regular council agenda. b. Update on Economic Development and Beautification of Town committees. Councilor Kratz has suggested obtaining a plot of land at Victory Park which people could rent for public gardening. Mayor Schoch stated that she has people interested in both committees. She will be setting up a meeting after the holidays. Mayor Schoch has been contacted by the Outreach Members and they would like to form ai new committee. They would like to see new Christmas lights in town. Mayor Schoch will contact the Town and Country and the Times News for publicity. There were: no questions from the committee members; the Finance Committee Meeting was adjourned. B. PUBLIC SAFETY Kevin Steckel - Chairman; Members: Ronald Kratz, Zachari Halkias 1. Committee Member discussion on listed topics: a. Update on county grant for air pack cylinders. Manager Stevens stated there is nothing new at this time. 1 b. Update on hiring of new full-time police officer. Mayor Schoch stated that most of the paperwork is back and by tomorrow we will be able to get his MOPAC: number. Once we. have received his MOPACnumber he could be sworn in. There were no questions from the committee members; the Public Safety Committee meeting was adjourned. C.E HUMAN/COMMUNITY SERVICES Zachari Halkias - Chairman; Members: Kevin Steckel, Ronald Kratz 1. Committee Member discussion on listed topics: a. Commander Ronnie Humanick from Post 16 American Legion to propose Veterans Banners for Slatington. Commander Humanick has been in contact with a company in Allentown who designs and does the Home Town Banners. He has gotten a very good response towards this. He is looking for approval from the council. The person he works with is requesting approval on letterhead for them to move forward on the banners. Commander Humanick stated they are approximately 21 %ft by 5ft. He stated that all the hardware, brackets, and banner would be paid for by the members and family members oft the veteran who wish to display. Manager Stevens stated that there is already hardware in place on the Main Street poles. He stated that the poles on the Morgan Bridge have different permanent hardware. The cost is about $150.00 for the banner and $50.00 for the bracket. Manager Stevens stated that they could not be up all year on Main Street due to the holiday decorations. The committee discussed locations for the banners. The committee agreed toj placed this on the next regular council agenda.
