BOROUGH OF SLATINGTON The Water, Sewer/Solid Waste, and Highway Committee Workshop Meetings werel held on May 22, 2023 inl Municipal Building, 125 South Walnut Street, Slatington, PA. The meeting was called to order by President Bartholomew at 6:30 PM with the following in attendance: PRESENT Thomas Bartholomew Joseph Wechsler-via phone Bryon Reed Jeffrey Hausman PUBLIC COMMENT: None A. HIGHWAY ABSENT OTHERS Justin Gross Daniel Stevens Mayor Schoch VISITORS Krystall Borman Ronald Hausman Tony Gnas Robert Herzog Jeffrey Hausman - Chairman; Members: Joseph Wechsler, Bryon Reed 1. Committee Member Discussion: a. Manager Stevens and Vice-President Reed met with Bruce George Paving concerning Chestnut Alley and marked the alley for an estimate. Met with Bruce George Paving on site concerning sinking sewer lateral trenches. Manager Stevens added that Bruce George will be in town paving this week and should give an estimate. The borough would do the saw cutting and digging, but Bruce George would do the paving. b. Councilor Hausman informed the committee the borough has received notification from Senator Coleman that the borough received the LSA grant for $56,000.00 of the $60,000.00 applied for. There is no match for the LSA grant and it is for storm sewers. Councilor Reed stated that the work will be from Oakhurst to the first part of Shadow Oaks. This is the first ofthe four grants applied for by the borough Being no further questions from the committee members, and the Highway Committee Meeting was adjourned. B. SEWER Joseph Wechsler - Chairman; Members: Bryon Reed, Jeffrey Hausman 1. Committee Member Discussion: a. Discussion concerning draft NPDES permit. This will be discussed at the Special Being no further questions from the committee members, the Sewer Committee meeting was Council meeting on 5/22/23. adjourned. C. WATERSPECIAL SEWER COMMITTEE 1. Committee Member Discussion: Bryon Reed - Chairman; Members: Jeffrey Hausman, Joseph Wechsler a. Update on the. AutoCon project. Justin Gross informed the committee that LRM returned the notice of award packet, but they forgot to sign one oft the pages. Hei is waiting fort the page to be signed. 1 b. Possible integration of Robert's panel with AutoCon panel. Councilor Reed provided quotes. Councilor Reed explained how the project would upgrade the system at a cost of $85,000.00. Councilor Reed feels it would be better to have only one contractor, instead of two different contractors. Councilor Reed would like this to go out for bid again. Manager Stevens pointed out that the bid was awarded to LRM and Martz is a subcontractor. Manager Stevens will get an opinion from the solicitor on this matter. . Update on new generator for wells #5 and #6. Councilor Reed stated that the generator isi installed and working, and Manager Stevens added that we: are waiting for the new d. Update on radio readout for reading of water meters. Councilor Reed stated that for many years the borough has been purchasing our pipes, meters, and other items from L&B Water. Councilor Reed met with them a week ago to learn the new technology. The representative informed him that the borough could keep the meters, and replace the ones you want. As far as the reading part, we could change out some, not all, of the readouts, which are located outside the house. Having these transmitters, it would cut the reading time down considerably and reduce labor cost. The cost per new readout meter base. and transmitter is about $200.00 per meter.
