MINUTES CALLEDMEETING APRIL23,2019 19 Ac called meeting oft the Council for the City of Covington was held on' Tuesday, April 23,2019 int the Council Chambers of City Hall located at 333 W. Locust Street, Covington, Virginia. The meeting was called to order byl Mayor Thomas H. Sibold, Jr. with all members present as follows: Mayor Sibold, Vice Mayor David S. Crosier, Councilman C.J. Entsminger, Jr., Councilman Raymond C. Hunter and Councilman S. Allan' Tucker. The purpose oft the meeting was to consider participation int the Proposed Opioid) Epidemic Cost Attorneyl Mark Popovich presented information regarding this legal action and noted that approximately 40 localities in Virginia have voted toj participate int this action. Discussion included potential cost recovery and any costs tot the City. Data for the City of Covington must be collected tos show how the opioid epidemic hast financiallyi impacted the City. Inr response to questions regarding Council's concèrns with any legal costs tot the City, Mr. Popovich contacted one of the attorneys currently working on the action. He assured Council thati ift there was no recovery cost awarded to the City of Covington, the would owe no fees for representation. Ifthe City was awarded recovery costs, the attorneys City handling the suit would take 25% oft the award for the City plus costs of filing the action from Police Officer. Roldan presented information regarding the opioid situation int the City. Following discussion, a motion was made by Vicel Mayor Crosier, seconded by! Mr. Tucker, to participate in the Proposed Opioid Epidemic Cost Recovery Action. Motion carried 5to0.
