A called meeting of the Council for the City of Covington was held on Tuesday, May 7,2019at 5:00 p.m. int the Council Chambers ofCity Halll located at333 W.J Locust Street, Covington, Ther meeting was called to order by Mayor Thomas H. Sibold, Jr. with the following members present: Mayor Sibold, Vice Mayor David S. Crosier, Councilman Raymond C. Hunter and Councilman S. Allan Tucker. Councilman C.. J.) Entsminger, Jr. was absent. Thej purpose of the meeting was to meet with the Covington School Board to discuss issues of concern. Members oft the Covington School Boardj present were as follows: Chairman Eddie Clemons, Vice Chairman Bert Baker, Tamala Preston, Erika Hunter and' Tonya. Jones. School Refreshments were served at 5:00 p.m. and the meeting began at 5:15 p.m. Mayor Sibold opened with brief remarks regarding budget andt turned discussion over tol Interim Discussion was held regarding funding: for the City School System and the $300,000 the school system is obligated to pay each year to assist with retirement of the new: school construction Mr. Goodman presented information regarding the financial situation oft the City andt the major capital needs currently funded and future needs that will need tol have aj plan for funding. Schooll Board members expressed concerns regarding the needs for the schools which included During discussion, members of Council explained the City'sr revenue resources, noting that they would like tol be ablet to do more, but the financial reality does not allow additional funding for Both Covington City Council and the Covington School. Board, expressed the desire to meet jointly to work together to find solutions that would be ofb benefit for everyone.
