The. January 2024 meeting of the Wise County' Planning Commission was held on. January 22, 2024, at the School Board Education Center located at 628 Lake Street in Wise, Virginia. Chairman Houchins  opened ther regular session of the meeting at 5:00 p.m.  ::  ROLL CALL: Richard Houchins, Chairman J.Fred" Tate Martha. Jett Tim Boardwine Duane Miller Gene Vanover,Jr. Michael Hatfield Joseph Morton ELECTION OF OFFICERS:  ABSENT: EdF Roop, Vice-Chair OTHERS PRESENT:  James D. McElrath, Wise Co. Zoning Administrator Karen Mullins, County Attorney Natalie Chapman, Economic Development  Michael Hatfield nominated Richard Houchins as Chairman. Tim Boardwine made: a motion that nominations cease, and Richard Houchins be: appointed by acclamation. Gene Vanover,. Jr.s seconded the motion. Richard Houchins abstained fromi thevote. The motion was unanimously: approved. Chairman Houchins nominated Ed Roop as Vice-Chair. Duane Miller madea a motion that nominations cease, and Ed Roopl be: appointed by acclamation. Gene' Vanover, Jr. seconded the motion. Ther motion Michael Hatfield nominated Martha. Jett as Secretary. Duane Miller madea a motion that nominations cease, and Martha Jett be appointed by acclamation. Gene' Vanover, Jr. seconded the motion. Martha  was unanimously: approved.  Jett abstained fromi the vote. Thei motion was unanimouslyapproved.  AGENDA:  Joseph Morton made a motion to approve the agenda as presented. Michael Hatfield secondedi the  motion. The motion was unanimously: approved.  MINUTES:  Michael Hatfield madea a motion to approve the April 18, 2023 Minutes as presented. GeneV Vanover,Jr.  seconded themotion. Themotion was unanimously approved.  PUBLICH HEARING:  Chairman Houchins opened the publicl hearing session for Case No. PC24-01.  CASENO.PC24-01:  Natalie Chapman appeared on behalf of the Wise County IDA fora approval to rezone the IDA's property to an R-2 to allow fort the creation dfa35-homesubdiwision to meet the county's need for affordable    housing. Natalie also presented the Commission with a depiction of thes style of modular housing that the developer had: submitted, along with al pre-development depiction oft the! property layout.. J.I Fred Tate asked Natalie how muchi thel houses would actually cost, and she noted that the price would bei in  the $225,000 range.  No one else wasi in attendance to: speaki in favor or opposition to this request. Chairman Houchins closed the Public Hearing and opened thei floor for a motion.  MOTION:  Gene Vanover,. Jr. madea ar motion that the Planning Commission approve the Wise County IDA'sI request fori the rezoning of Parcel #040859 and recommend the Wise County Board of Supervisors to approve the rezoning request.
