The Special Called August 2024 meeting of the Wise County Planning Commission was held on August 27, 2024, in the boardroom of the Education Center at the Wise  County School Board on Lake Street in Wise. Chairman Houchins opened the meeting at 5 pm.  Roll Call: Those Present: Richard Houchins, Chairman Ed Roop, Vice-Chair Martha Jett, Secretary Joseph Morton Tim Boardwine Duane Miller Gene Vanover Jr. Michael Hatfield Others Present:  Those Absent: J. Fred Tate  James D. McElrath, Wise Co. Zoning Administrator Michael Abbott, Council to the Planning Commission Natasha Lee, Assistant to the Planning Commission  Agenda:  Michael Hatfield made a motion to approve the agenda as presented. Ed Roop  seconded the motion. All voted aye, no one opposed. Motion carries, the August 27, 2024, agenda is approved. Chairman Houchins opened the public hearing. Amendment to the Wise County Comprehensive Plan  Michael Hatfield gave the Commissioners information regarding the amendment. VDOT had projects to complete on roads in the county that needed to be noted in the comprehensive plan. VDOT intends to complete work on Wise Norton Rd that connects to US-23. The right turn lane will be extended, and striping will be completed. There will also be a center double turn lane placed on Coeburn Mountain Rd from UVA to the Justice Center. Chairman Houchins noted this would also help with traffic coming from Itwas noted that work on US-58 east of Tacoma is completed but will be updated in the comprehensive plan as well. Michael Hatfield made note that the Board had approved There being no further discussion, Chairman Houchins closed the public hearing and Duane Miller made a motion to approve the request.
