The following board members were present: Beth Ancell, Jim Printz and Darris Ritenour. Staff present were: Kurt Emmerling, Director, Linda McLain, Samantha Fox, Amy Huffman and Theresa Seastrom to take minutes oft the meeting. I. The motion was made to convene into the regular open session meeting at 8:34 am. The agenda for the meeting was approved by) Jim Printz and seconded by Beth Ancell. II. Motion was made by Beth Ancell and seconded by Jim Printz to approve the III. Theresa Seastrom presented the Administrative Expenditures and Refunds and Collections for the months of March and April 2024. Motion was made to approve the expenditures and refunds as presented by Beth Ancell and seconded minutes of the April 16, 2024 meeting. by Jim Printz. IV. Statistical Reports: The statistical reports for the months of April and May 2024 were presented for review by Linda McLain. Linda advised that the Cooling Program began on June 18th. The amount of$600.00 will be received by qualifying households for electric bills for this cooling season. Linda also advised that the State was performing Eligibility program reviews. The agency received excellent EAP reviews. Dawn Knighton successfully handles: all the Samantha Fox presented an update oft the Service department for the period. The agency had 6 child removals during the month ofl May 2024. There are currently 32 children in Foster Care and 11 in the Fostering Futures program. The agency receives an average of5 5 to 7 referrals weekly. Adult Services received 16 Medicaid assistance applications. The agency currently has 16 CPS and 22 APS cases. Samantha stated that the agency generally receives more child reports during school session and more. APS reports during the summer The agency hired (2) new workers in June 2024; Skylar Fox, CPS and Samantha agency's EAP programs/Applcations V. months. Ballew, Foster Care. VI. There were no public comments. VII. The Director provided a report oft the current agency: status. Plans are inj process tol begin remodel on the old' "Dollar Store" section of the building next door by the County. The Director was advised about 2 weeks ago that the County is close tol having a contractor. DSS has requested a section oft this space for a family meeting room and additional office space. VIII. At 8:58 am the Director requested a motion to proceed into closed session to discuss personnel issues. Motion was made by Darris Ritenour, approved by Jim WHEREAS, the Board has convened into a closed session on this date pursuant to an affirmative vote and in accordance with the provisions ofthe Virginia Freedom WHEREAS, Sec. 2.2-3712 ofthe Code ofVirginia requires a certification by this Board that. such closed. session was conducted conformity with Virginia Law; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Board hereby certifies that, to the best ofeach member's knowledge, () only public business matters were discussed in the closed session to which this certification resolutions applies, and (ii) only such business matters as were identified in the motion convening the closed. session At 9:06 am motion was made by Darris Ritenour, approved by Beth Ancel and Printz and seconded by Beth. The Director advised that the agency held a Staff Development Day on June 12, 2024. The updated agency handbook was reviewed with staff at the meeting. A civility policy was created by the State relating to the behavior ofemployees and The agency is currently consulting on the possibility of combing resources with Clark, Frederick and Winchester DSS in a collaboration ofr resources.
