Minutes of Regular Meeting Mayor and Council City of Fitzgerald, Georgia May: 13, 2024 6:00 p.m. Mayor and Council met on Monday, May 13, 2024, at 6:00 p.m. at the City Hall Council Chambers, located at 302 East Central Avenue, with Mayor. Jason L. Holt presiding and with Council members Brown, Clemons, D. Jefferson, S. Jefferson, J.. Johnson, K. Johnson, Peavey, Roberts and Webb being present. Mayor Holt welcomed everyone on this rainy evening. Minutes of previous meeting, April 8, 2024, Regular Council meeting were presented. Mayor Holt entertained a motion for approval. Council member Roberts made a motion to approve minutes, seconded by Council member Peavey. With there being no additions or corrections, Mayor Holt Mayor Holt called on Becky Gay. Becky Gay is the CIS (Communities in Schools) director. She came tos speak on Mayl being Teen Pregnancy Prevention Month. Becky presented statistical data on several areas associated with teen pregnancy. She also let us know of the program we have ins school that has been a great help in us trending downward ini teen pregnancy. She presented Mayor Holt called onl Mr. Calvin Bryan to come and address council. Mr. Bryan lives at 119 Kaitlyn Court. His concern is Clare Road and all the pot holes. Mr. Bryan stated that he came last month to address this issue and wants to know an exact time of when we would address the pot hole Mayor Holt called on Deanna Diakogiannis and Brittany Stanford to come speak. Both ladies spoke regarding Evergreen Cemetery. They disagree with the removal ofi items at the gravesites. There is a petition that has started with about 120 signatures in opposition of the policies. Deanna stated that when they visited they did pick up around the sites to be sure that the area was neat and clean. Motion approved. Council Person S. Jefferson inquired about mobile homes and lot size for residential areas. She was informed that the area must be zoned R-6-M and have a double wide trailer as only single- wides are allowed in mobile home parks. Questions into the zoning ensued and you can go and Council Person K. Johnson asked about the Monitor and Legion areas in regards to the ARPA money allocations. The funds are already allocated. We are waiting on the status of the contractors. Currently we are working with 2 contractors for Monitor. Once we get the information from the contractors we will bring before the buildings and grounds committee. Council Person K.. Johnson also asked about the logo on the banners for the light poles in town. They are the former logo oni the banners and wondering when the new logo will be on them. We are currently weaning down the old logo items in town and replacing as we reorder items such as the trashcans and the banners. We will reach out to tourism and check on this. Council Person J.. Johnson stated he voted NO on the sports bar and he feels we need to amend the ordinance, in regards to distance, for the parks and recreation facility. The state law changed and we cannot change state law! but will looki into what we are able to do in this matter. apply for zoning at Public Works.
