Also present: Danny Ziemer and Katie Sanders from the Assessor's office, Alan Ours - County Manager, and Robb Nichols - The meeting was called to order by Chairman Pullen at 9:00 a.m. in the conference room of the Lumpkin County Administration Building, 99 Courthouse Hill, Minutes of the June 11, 2024 meeting: Motion to approve was made by Ms. Lumpkin County Development Authority. Dahlonega, GA 30533. Armstrong with a second by Mr. Bosanko. Voted 5-0 in favor. Old Business: None introduced themselves. ACO Report: None New Business: Mr. Pullen welcomed Mr. Clark to the Board and each member Homestead Exemptions: Motion to approve was made by Ms. Smith with as second Appeal Update: Mr. Ziemer said that 151 appeals were received this year. This credits the work of Joe Schlatmann and Trina Jones as they were very adept at speaking with taxpayers, hearing their concerns, and explaining the valuation process. This helped keep the appeal numbers low. Of the 151 appeals 52 have been turned over to the Appeal Administrator for the first Board of Equalization hearing scheduled August 6th and 9th. 47 appeals were reviewed and changes made sO they will be receiving an updated notice. 37 are still waiting for further information from the taxpayer. 13 have been resolved/finalized. 2 appeals were by Mr. Bosanko. Voted 5-0 in favor. submitted after the deadline and considered "late" and invalid. There are a few reports leftt tor review, but it should bei ready by the end ofthe day - 6 days early. On motion by Ms. Smith and seconded by Ms. Armstrong the Board approved the digest 5 -0a and requested Mr. Ziemer give the digest to the Tax Commissioner as Robb Nichols from the Lumpkin County Development Authority addressed the Board. He brought to them a proposed tax abatement agreement between the Authority and Satellite Industries. Satellite Industries is better known in the county as Poly Portables and they have been in Lumpkin for 20+ years. This new location will be utilized for the manufacturing, assembly, and distribution of items for the The company is looking to build a 172,000 square foot factory on a 25-acre parcel - off Fannie Russell Road. The 10-year abatement would be only on the real property, the county would still collect the personal property tax at fmv. The abatement means the real property would be taxed at 35% of the assessed value. After the 10 years have passed all property would revert to being taxed at 100% ofthe assessed value. Mr. Ziemer noted that the agreement was helpful in Mr. Ours suggested the Board consider that the company will be expanding somewhere and this keeps the industry in Lumpkin County. The company will be required to add 80 skilled jobs which they hope encourages residents to remain in the county as well as attract new residents to Lumpkin County.
