MONTGOMERY COUNTY BOARD OF ELECTIONS AND REGISTRATION (MCBOER) MINUTES - AUGUST 13, 2024 BOARD MEMBERS PRESENT William Morris, Nakia Brazell, Barbara Clark, Bennie Sammons, Jim Welch and Sheila Cheek, Election Supervisor Mr. Morris ealled the meeting to order and asked Mr. Sammons to open with prayer. Mr. Morris led the members in reciting the Pledge of Allegiance. Mr. Brazell read the Mrs. Cheek read the minutes from the. July 9,2024, meeting and Mr. Morris askéd if there were: any changes or additions. Thère being none, Mr. Morris made the motion to approve the minutes. Mr. Brazell seconded the motion and the motion carried unanimously. Mr. Morris introduced Mrs, Heather Scott, the new County Mariager, to the Board Mr. Morris suggested that due to next year being an off year in elections thel Board go to quarterly meetings instead of monthly meetings. The Board will decide in the September Mrs. Cheek gave an update on the November elections and new. requirements. In the November elections the Absentee Ballots will have to be counted and reported to the State by 8:00 p.mi. on election night. The Board agreed to open the Absentee Ballots on election day at 2:30 p.m., and 7:00 p.m. Mrs. Cheek also reported that after closing the polls on election night the ballots in the Ballot boxes will have to be counted to ensure the number Mrs. Cheek reported she had talked with Mrs. Taylor Moses the Poll Manager in Uvalda regarding cutting the number of voting machines from 8 to 6. She responded due to the General Election and the Uvalda election they would need 8 machines, but they would not Mr. Morris and Mrs. Cheek discussed the possibility of borrowing two BMDs from another county or contacting the Secretary of State's office to: see ifit would be possible to acquire Mrs. Cheek said we should have the new Poll Pads before the end of August, and this will Mr. Sammons commented that the number ofamendments on the General Primary caused the voters more time in the voting booths. Mr. Morris suggested a copy of the amendments Board of Elections Mission Statement.
