MINUTES POLK: STATE COLLEGE District Board ofTrustees Meeting Thursday, August 1,2024-4 4:30 p.m. Polk State Winter Haven Campus, WST 126 Dr. Angela M. Garcia Falconetti called the August 1,2024, District Board ofTrustees Special meeting Members Present: Ms. Ashley Bell Barnett, Ms. Ann Barnhart, Mr. Greg Littleton, Ms. Teresa toorder at approximately 4:30 p.m. Martinez, Ms. Cindy Hartley Ross, and Mr. Ashley Troutman Members Absent: Agenda: Ms. Barnhart moved, seconded by Mr. Troutman, to approve the agenda for August 1, 2024. All members voted affirmatively. Academic & Student Services Action Items: a. Change to Non-Resident Tuition and Fees for Specific Online Degree Programs as Required by House Bill 1285 - Education (2024 Legislative Session) - Dr. Amy Dr. Bratten presented and recommended for approval the Change to Non-Resident Tuition and Fees for Specific Online Degree Programs as Required by House Bill 1285 - Education (2024 Legislative Session). She emphasized that current non-resident tuition for online courses will be reduced from $409.06 for lower-level courses to $290 per credit hour. Discussion ensured related to current enrollment numbers for out-of-state online students and the list of programs that can currently be completed online. Dr. Mary Clark will prepare a report to address the out-of-state enrollment and programs questions asked by the members oft the District Board ofTrustees. Mr. Troutman moved, seconded by Ms. Barnhart, to approve the Change to Non-Resident Tuition and Fees for Specific Online Degree Programs as Required by House Bill 1285 - Education (2024 Legislative Session).. All members voted affirmatively. b. General Education Review Revision Dr. Amy Bratten Bratten Dr. Bratten presented and recommended for approval the General Education Review Revision. Inr response to Senate Bill 266 section 100.25 and Florida Statute 1007.55, all state colleges must conduct an annual review oft the General Education programming. Polk State College performed this review and received feedback from the state indicating one necessary change. Dr. Bratten stated that Polk State is seeking Board approval to remove. HUM 2454 Introduction to African American Studies from the course offerings for the 2024-2025 Academic Year to review the course prefix (HUM vs HIS) and al learning outcome that is behavioral versus academic. This course willl be reviewed by a work group of faculty members and academic administrators to align with the state's feedback. African. American Studies from the College's2024-2025 general education course offerings. All members voted affirmatively. Board Discussion: Chair Martinez asked President Garcia Falconetti ifs she had any comments to share with the Board. She acknowledged the work of Dr. Amy Bratten, Dr. Megan Cavanah, and the team for She congratulated the First-Year Experience (FYE) Program and the Student. Activities & Leadership Office (SALO) for the tremendous success oftoday's First Flight event on the Winter Haven Campus, which welcomes first-time-in-college students. Another First She congratulated Chair Martinez on receiving four awards for Viva Polk magazine from the Florida Magazine Association, including finalist for Magazine oft the Year. She noted this evening's Kenneth C. Thompson Institute for Public Safety (KCTIPS) Graduation at 6:00 p.m. in the Polk State Center for Public Safety auditorium. Thei next regular DBOT meeting will occur on Monday, August 26, 2024, at thel Polk State Winter their efforts with the general education core modifications.
