PROJECT LOCATION: The Project will be located in the City of Everglades City within Collier PROJECT BACKGROUND: The City of Everglades City's (Grantee) existing wastewater treatment facility is damaged, malfunctioning, in very poor condition, and at the end ofi its useful life. The lack of redundancy, advanced level of corrosion, undersized andi inoperative equipment could resulti in a complete and catastrophic failure of wastewater treatment capability and potentially a wastewater spill into the Everglades National Park. Thei facility needs a complete replacement ofall systems to guarantee compliance Thei facilityi is located adjacent tot the environmentally sensitive' Ten' Thousand Islands, Everglades National Park andt the Big Cypress) National Preserve. The Grantee andt the environment willl benefit from this project because ther new WWTF willj provide better functionality, redundancy, treatment and overall operations for The Grantee is currently under Consent Final Judgement (Case No.: 1I-2015-CA-002134) by the FDEP, which requires the complete replacement of the existing wastewater treatment facility (WWTF). The engineering and permitting phase of the project will be funded by a FDEP State Revolving Fund Loan PROJECT DESCRIPTION: The Grantee will replace the existing damaged and malfunctioning Wastewater Treatment Facility (WWTF). The improvements include new equalization tanks, plant lift station, headworks, anoxic and aerobic treatment, secondary clarifiers, sludge digesters, tertiary filters, effluent disinfection, chlorine contact chambers, and plant generator. All the improvements will be constructed within the existing WWTF property, and noi new land acquisition or easements willl be needed.
