The County recently contracted with Stewart Inc., an engineering and planning firm from Raleigh, to assist the County in creating a UDO. JM Teague Engineering, an engineering consultant from Chad Sary from Stewart Inc. gave a presentation on the UDO background, process, work program, and objectives. The project is in the initiation phase, which begins with the kick-off workshops for the County's planning boards and councils. A UDO combines different ordinances into one easy-to-read reference document. Its purpose is to eliminate redundancies or conflicting language, consolidate development processes and help streamline them, update During the UDO initiation stage, Stewart will be reviewing existing ordinances and the recently adopted comp plan, holding staff and stakeholder interviews, getting to know the County, and utilizing public involvement through the boards and councils, Board of Commissioners, regular press releases, and project and website updates.
