The motion carried unanimously with the board. Chairman DeBerry called upon Dr. Dale Ellis for his Superintendent's Remarks. Dr. Ellis stated that he would like to publicly thank Mitch Taylor and the entire staffi in the finance office. It always takes until June 30th to close out the finances for the entire school year but with that day falling on a Sunday this year, they had to finish everything by June 28th. Just at thank you to them and all the administrators for the tremendous job they do working hard to get things up and running for the next school year. Also, I had a conversation with my friend JeffJames, Superintendent for the Iredell- Statesville School District that I will be elaborating on in my School Connections article next week. They. just put out al high school tol bid and it came back at $143,000,000. That bid did not include fixtures, furniture and equipment which can be an additional $16,500,000. So, their cost to build a new high school is looking to cost them around $165,000,000 which is over twice what we paid to build Montgomery Central. At the time, the $80,000,000 it cost to build Montgomery Central did not sound like a bargain, but it has become one of our biggest bargains. The high school has become a wonderful community facility with all the camps and now our fall sports season is starting up as well as the planning for our Back to School Bashi in August. Our board took al lot ofheat because we did not havea vote but if wel had waited and missed that window that high school would not be sitting there right now. Just want to thank our board and the board of county commissioners. Montgomery Central High School has become a tremendous part oft this community. Chairman DeBerry then asked for a motion to go into closed session to discuss personnel and consult the board attorney. Tommy Blake made the motion, with Bryan Dozier seconding. The board approved entering closed session unanimously.
