TOWN OF VANCEBORO BOARD OF ALDERMAN MEETING Held their regular monthly meeting on July1, 2024 at 7:00 PM in the. Jimmie L. Morris Boardroom I. Call to order by Mayor Chad Braxton. II. Roll call Those Present: Mayor Chad Braxton, Alderman Steve Belrose, Alderman Keith Cannon, Alderman Thad Jones, Alderman Russell Ipock and Alderman Todd McMillen. III. Invocation by Alderman Jones. IV. Pledge of Allegiance. V. Approval of minutes from last meeting. Alderman Ipock made a motion to approve minutes as corrected. Motion was seconded by Alderman McMillen and carried. VI. Approval of Cash! Receipts and Disbursements. Alderman Belrose made a motion to pay bills. Motion was seconded by Alderman Cannon and carried. Vote 5-0. Vote 5-0. VII. Public Comment. Hudson Jordan - 704 College Street. Mr. Jordan stated that a tree had fell recently in his yard and almost hit him in the process. There is more oft the tree that needs to be cut down, will this be completed by the Town or the owner? Public Works Supervisor, Vernon Edwards said that he had already talked to the owner, and it VIII. Police Report was presented by Chief Keys. We are currently seeking volunteers and vendors willing to join National Night Out. We have received multiple complaints regarding speeders and loud noise in the College Street area. We are monitoring these areas to reduce the complaints. Vanceboro Elementary School has a new assistant principal, Sierra Danopoli for the 2024-25 school year. The former assistant principal, Darrell Ward, has been promoted to Principal at. James W. would be taken care ofthis week. Smith school. The 2024-25 school year start, and dismissal times have changed, they IX. Mayor's Reports. Birthdays this month include Alderman Steve Belrose, Mayor Chad Braxton and Alderman Todd McMillen. The fiscal year 24-25-year budget for the Town was approved last week. I'd like to thank all oft the alderman for attending the budget workshops. Iattended West Craven High School for their Class of 2024 graduation. They had approximately 175 graduates this year, I'd like to wish them the best in the future. We have signed agreements with Beverly Stroud, CPA and Nunn, Brashear, and Uzzell P.A., to complete our 2023 and 2024 audits and get the town caught up. Barnhill hasn'tstarted patching the roads in the seyen places throughout town yet. Ditch work for the town should begin on July 15th. Craven County gave us a comprehensive map for the drainage throughout Town of Vanceboro. Wewill begin improvements to the drainage throughout town on an annual basis. Utility Services will be completing a water meter survey on July 8th, this will take place for about 7 to 10 days. Iwould like to thank Linda Thomas for her work in getting a historical marker placed by the school. Debt setoff this month was $299.79. I spoke with Harvest Beam this past week, they have received grants from the State to help with WIFI for Vanceboro and the outer areas. They will be sending out surveys to our customers to get feedback on what areas may need assistance with better internet capabilities. The contractor has trimmed up around Celestial Memorial Gardens and made it look a lot better. The Town Hall will be closed on July 4th for Independence Day. Next Board of Alderman Meeting will bel held August 5th. Next Recycling pickup will be on July 18th. The house has been torn down on Main Street next to the bank. The owner will be building a home like the one on the corner ofl Mill Road and Fowle Street. Unity in the Community will be hosting church at the crosses in the vacant lot beside Kite's on July 7th at 10 a.m. Everyone is invited to attend, please bring your chairs or are 7:50 a.m. and will dismiss at 3:10 p.m. blankets to sit on. X. Alderman Reports. Alderman Cannon had no comment. Alderman Steve Belrose stated that the mulch for the playground will be delivered on. July 3rd. Iwill meet the delivery guy to show them where to drop it off. I received the email from the Local Government Commission and wanted to know Alderman Ipock asked if we needed to hire another employee to fill Chris Edwards position. We may want to consider it if he isn't back soon. Do we need to reach out to Duke Progress about trimming limbs that are growing into thej power lines before Alderman Jones thanked everyone for their thoughts, prayers, calls and the flowers when his brother passed.
