AUTHORIZING- -Town Manager and Staff to Apply for Multiple Grants for the Proposed Stanback Special Projects Manager Morris gave a presentation and answered questions from the Mayor and Board. Inl March 2023, the Town of Spencer received a donation of real propertyf fromi the Three Rivers Land" Trustf for the expansion of the Stanback Educational Forest. A portion of this land area extends from South Spencer Avenue to Grants Creek, near the 7th Street Bridge. The Great Trails State Program Grant would be used to improve the informal trails on the property, address drainage issues, and improve stream crossings along the proposed trail corridor. The BOArecently re-zoned the Stanback Forest property for CIVIC land use. The newly acquired property (more than 46 acres) currently has a network of informal trails extending from Spencer Avenue to Grants Creek. The construction of a more defined trail surface will increase the use of this section of Stanback Forest. The Spencer Mural Selection Committee and the property owner, Mr. Helms, have approved at final design. Mr. Dowdle has been open and adaptive to feedback from the North Carolina Transportation Museum, the Spencer Mural Selection Committee, and members of the Spencer community during the Spencer Labor History Storytelling Social Night.
