Brown Mayor Pro Tem Council Members David Ammann Wade Wittman Dick Casey THE VILLAGE OF SUGAR MOUNTAIN 251 Dick Trundy Lane Sugar Mountain, NC 28604 August 16, 2024 The summer is moving along entirely too quick. By the next meeting we will be talking about leaves falling and cooler weather! Our projects are being completed with the good weather we are having. The paving crew is moving along nicely and should be completed with the task late next week without any rain. We have been able to keep up with the mowing schedule without anything getting too tall or unsightly. The new truck we received in July is in service and being used daily. Ih have been keeping close tabs on the two contract crews that Mountain Electric has on the mountain installing new underground wire. This is going to cause the entirety of Briarcliff Road above Slopeview to be repaved as the new line is being put inj place in the center of the roadway. The second crew is working in Mossy Creek with the two crews hoping to meet up on Moss Ridge Road in mid- September. This has been causing some traffic delays but, in the end, will provide peace of mind for our residents knowing the electric line failures will be cut to a bare minimum. The golf course continues to be very busy this season. All of the new equipment we have ordered has arrived and is in service. We are hosting a night tournament this Saturday that is a fundraiser for the Avery County boys and girls golf teams in middle and high schools. Over the last few years, the teams have used our course for practice and matches in an increasing frequency. We love having them here, because it brings them back in the future. Then next week the Sugar Mountain Classic returns for the 3rd season. Our annual 2 day stroke play event to determine our club champion for 2024. The rest of August continues with a robust schedule of events with the Avery Shriners, Reaching Avery Ministries, High Country Home Builders, and Appalachian State all having tournaments. We are happy to be in a position to help out these community organizations. In just a couple of weeks, hope each of youl has a great Labor Day weekend!
