Sugar Mountain Police Department FOLICE THE VILLAGE OF CAR MOUT 251 Dick Trundy Lane Sugar Mountain, North Carolina 28604 (828)898-4349 chiel@seesugar.com Chief Casey Turbyfill REPORT TO VILLAGE COUNCIL June 14, 2024 would like to thank our Village Council for their consideration of the proposed fiscal budget. All requested equipment will be great assets to the public safety of the Village. Sugar Mountain Police Department continues to provide a professional and dependable Police Department to residents and guests. We have a great team of officers that do an excellent job. Michael Linkous's certification paperwork has been submitted to North Carolina Training and Standards Division for certification. I am confident that Michael will be a great addition to the department. Michael Linkous is currently in the Police Department Field Training Program. The first phase of the Field Training is the basic operation of the department, along with learning the department policies. Once certified, Michael will complete the next phases of the Field Training Program. Michael has been working a full shift schedule with Officer Brown and Officer Osborne since graduating from BLET in May. I will return to day shift in July, with Officer Osborne and Trainee Michael Linkous going to the night shift. Officers have been busy patrolling the Village; Officers are conducting business walk throughs and stationary patrols. I have nothing major to report this month. I would like to mention that we had two larcenies in the NC 184 areas of the Village. If you see any suspicious activity, please report this immediately, SO the on duty officer can investigate the complaint. Many times, we are not called until time has passed, and this makes the investigations more difficult. One incident included the larceny of a motor vehicle, the vehicle was located shortly after the report, but a suspect was never identified. Traffic flow has picked up on Village Streets. I would like to ask everyone to obey the speed limits and be cautious of pedestrians. The safety of residents and guests is our priority. Speeding, along with distracted driving, accounts for most of the accidents we are called to investigate. Ihave attached our activity report since the last meeting.
