No major incident to report. With only one vehicle crash which involved a roll away vehicle at the top of Briarcliff, damage was contained to property, no injuries were reported. Our officers have been busy the past month patrolling the Village streets, conducting business walk through, and foot patrols. lam convinced that a visual Law Enforcement presence helps deter criminal activity, and lower the amount motor vehicle crashes. With the higher traffic volume speeding complaints have became more frequent. The speed limit in the Village is 15 MPH, unless posted otherwise. lask that all residence and guest please obey the Village speed limits, to help in reducing the risk of traffic crashes. Officer Michael Linkous is now certified, and can perform the duties as a Sugar Mountain Police Officer. Officer Linkous is about half way through our Field Training Program, and upon completion will begin working the night shift. Officer Buchanan completed in-service firearms training with the Avery County Sheriff's Office. Officer Buchanan will cover shift when the remainder of the department attend this yearly training in September. Officer Hicks has completed her probationary period, and will soon be awarded her General Law Enforcement Certification. Officer Hicks is a great asset to the department, having a female officer is very beneficial to our operations. Iwill be covering several shifts for officer'sv vacations, in the coming weeks. Retired Chief Henson will be assisting with some night shift coverage's later this month. In a personal note my family will be growing, our son is expected to arrive August 15th. Iwill be taking some time off to be with my family. Shifts will be covered as usual, and Iwill be available to assist officers when needed. As always we will strive to provide a professional law enforcement service to the citizens and guest of Sugar Mountain. Included is our past months activity report, and speed sign data.
