Manager's Monthly Report June 18, 2024 Golf Course: The golf course is in exceptionally good condition and is beautiful with the greening ofthe trees and blossoming oft the plants. We: started the season in April with lots of activity and an increase in revenues over last April. Then the weather in May did not cooperate, causing a slower than expected month. Our summer people have not arrived as early this year as in the past few years. From the opening day of April 19th through May 31st we saw an increase of $11,371 in revenue in comparison to the same period of April and May 2023. Activity through June 13th has shown a $11,395 or 31% increase in revenue in comparison to the same period of June 2023. Tri-County Paving has completed the repairs and resurfacing of the cart paths. The cart path on hole number 12, leading to the Carolina Water Sewer plant has been widened and Carolina Water will reimburse the Village for this portion ($25,900) of the $100,000 paving project. Celebrating 50 Years of Sugar Mountain Golf: We will take it back to 1974 with Sugar Mountain Golf's Retro Days. Everyone can enjoy eighteen holes with a cart and lunch for $15 per player. Tennis: The Tennis courts opened for the 2024 Season on May 1st and activity is increasing with the arrival of our summer tennis players. They have begun the regular doubles match play schedule as of June 1st. We have seen an increase in revenue of $5,335 in comparison to May 2023. The 2024 season rates were adjusted, making changes to both single court play fees and an increase in the options for season passes. We are also offering a Golf and Tennis Sports Tourism Development Authority (TDA) Board Meeting: The TDA Board met on Wednesday, June: 12, 2024. The Board held al Public Hearing fort the FY2 2024-25 Budget and lateri ini the meeting adopted al balanced budget of $863,200. The TDA budget will again this year provide funding for the TDA coordinator, tennis professional, and a police officer position's; ($117,000). All Village beautification projects will be funded by the TDA. Infrastructure funding from the TDA budget will provide $219,000 in funding for golf course equipment, tennis court improvements, golf clubhouse improvements, street resurfacing, and golf course cart path paving. The Board approved an Our State magazine ad campaign for 2024-25 in the amount of $38,595. They also approved Woolly Worm advertising and website support in the amount of $3,000. The April 2024 collections of the occupancy' tax showed a decrease of 7% in comparison to April 2023. The occupancy tax collections for the period May 2023 through April 2024 ($858,847)have shown a $74,266 or 7.95% decrease in comparison to the same period of 2023 ($933,113). Street Maintenance: Tri-County Paving crew has completed the prep work in the Village preparing our Village streets for repairs and resurfacing next week. They will be resurfacing all of Fox Run and most of Rocks Spring Circle. There willl be extensive repairs and resurfacing of Grouse Moor: and several othera areas throughout the Village. A culvert on Grouse Moor Drive willl be replaced prior to the paving to be done on Village Beautification: Phillip Sisco, contracted by the Village through funding by the TDA again this year, has completed the annual planting ofi flowers throughout the Village, tennis courts and ont the golf course. Phillip has also completed "beautifying" our bridge along Sugar Mountain Drive with flowering basketson the handrail att this time. We willy work on ar more permanent solution fort the future. The TDAI has included Notice to Restore Properties: As reported last month, the property owners of lots 187 Shelter Rock Circle and lot 107 Rock Spring Circle were sent a notice requiring them to restore the respective properties to their original state due to no activity on the construction of the home since 2022. Since receiving the notice, both properties are nowi in compliance. The property on Rock Spring Circle has been restored with ground cover and twenty (20) trees have been planted. Public' Works has completed the striping on our: streets. all Village beautification projects throughout the Village in their FY 2024-25 Budget. az zoning permit and construction has commenced. Property Tax Collections: Of the $1,410,225 total 2023 levy, $1,401,917 or 99.41% has been collected with al balance of $8,309 uncollected through. June 14, 2024. Al balance of $1,774 is still uncollected for the 2014-2022 tax years. Avery County has sent the 2024 tax scroll and Tammy Summer Grillin'& Chillin' Events: The summer Grillin' & Chillin' Events will continue every Wednesday this summer through Labor Day, September 4th. The events are every Wednesday from 5:30-8:30. Wednesday, June 26th will feature the "Smokin' Joe Band". This is the seventh year of the event and attendance continues to grow.
