ASTATULA CEMETERYCOMMITTEE MINUTES REGULAR MEETING Tuesday May 14, 2019 TOWN HALL Confirmation that the meeting was properly posted, Chairman Winkle called the Regular Cemetery Committee Meeting to order at 6:05 pm. Invocation was given, and the Pledge of Allegiance was recited. Members Present: Charlotte Winkle, Chairman David Jones JenniferLong Patricia May Also Present: Jane Whaley, Deputy Town Clerk Jennifer Anthony, Secretary was delayed and arrived late. Roll call was performed, and it was determined that a quorum was present. MINUTEAPPROVAL Approval of minutes for March 22, 2018 Cemetery Committee Meeting MOTION by Member Long to approve the minutes; SECONDED by Member Jones For: Long, Jones, May, & Winkle Against: None MOTION CARRIED 4-0 OLD BUSINESS Fence Repairs A public works employee has been hired, he is also a volunteer for the Astatula Police Department. Two sections of fencing need repaired are expected to be completed by our next meeting. Corner markerI requirements Town Council likes the idea. Southern Monument has quoted a price of $125 if markers are picked up. Price would be $150 to have them installed at site. Waiting for further approval from Town Council. Discussion was held regarding how MOTION was made by Member Long to turn quote over to Town Council for decision; many spaces would be needed/ wanted. Cans need holes drilled in the bottom for water drainage. Discussed attaching cans to poles to prevent theft or movement. Veterans/Reflection area with bench Discussion was held about adding a sign or an archway to label the entrance of the cemetery. Extended discussion was held about having a Veterans Memorial Garden/Area with a bench/ seating. Included in the 20-year plan for cemetery. Wreaths Across America The Town of Astatula was contacted by Trish Gardner on behalf of Wreaths Across America. They are a national organization that places wreaths on Veterans graves across America during the holidays. Wreaths are scheduled to be laid on the grave-sites of veterans on December 14, Further discussion included the need for installing posts & a rope/chain to block the cemetery roads from the grave-sites to prevent vehicles from driving over graves. Discussed having a newsletter or memo about the committee's next meeting in July to invite new members to join the committee. Also discussed the purpose and responsibilities the Cemetery Committee, 2019 and willl be collected after the holiday season. including the distribution off funds.
