We had 8 Code Violation issued in May and June:  CV17209 SW 127th Avenue, Unsafe building, overgrown yard, dilapidated fence oThis is the trailer that went before the magistrate last year, I have re-coded it toi force action on the property and was assured something would take place  in the next two weeks. Alachua Assistant County Manager will be presenting the two Joint Infrastructure Surtax Project Applications to the Alachua County Board of County Commissioners at their next meeting. These two applications were based on joint discussion and approval at the  joint meeting held in April.  One is for resurfacing of 143rd Avenue and placing millings on SW 1415'Lane, SW 174th Street and SW 147th Ave., the second is the WSPP match for the Maddox Park  Community Center project.  5. Ave repaired the pothole on SW 134th Ave. took the mower to get serviced. Did some grading on Pearson Street, SW 1391 th Ave., SW 143 rd Ave., SW 131st Ave, SW 176th St and SW168th St. Removed several trees and debris around the city after the wind and rainstorm event we had. Although some individuals think our Public Works Department does not do anything, they are always extremely busy. When you see our Public Works Department out and about, Thank Them for What' They Do. Having a community center in this part of town will encourage citizens from other neighborhoods to come to Holly Hills and experience what the community has to offer in terms of history, culture, and the arts. The recreational opportunities for bonding through basketball games can provide a wonderful forum for our community to educate citizens about the. African American heritage of Archer. In addition, the proposed project will build stronger communities through investment int the historically African American Holly Hills neighborhood by providing a place for the community to gather indoors. It will further promote a healthy environment for the children of the community to have a safe, enclosed place to participate in organized sports. The facility will serve a dual purpose of a meeting hall and a basketball. court. The proposed project is the construction of the Holly Hills Community Center in Archer, Florida. The Holly Hills neighborhood is the birthplace of the "Archer Nine Devils." They were the first With few ways to spend time, many of the young men played sports. The Archer Nine Devils played ball on a sandlot within the neighborhood. The team found themselves playing against such baseball legends as Hank Aaron, who went on to play for the Milwaukee Braves. Mr. Aaron had been brought in from Jacksonville to play on an All-Star team against the Archer Nine Devils. Others on the team signed with the Cincinnati Reds or tried out with the Minnesota Inside the City limits life was a little different for the blacks leading up to and during the 1970's.
