The recreational opportunities for bonding through basketball games can provide a wonderful forum for our community to educate citizens about the. African American heritage of Archer. In addition, the proposed project will build stronger communities through investment int the historically African American Holly Hills neighborhood by providing a place for the community to gather indoors. It will further promote a healthy environment for the children of the community to have a safe, enclosed place to participate in organized sports. The team found themselves playing against such baseball legends as Hank Aaron, who went on to play for the Milwaukee Braves. Mr. Aaron had been brought in from Jacksonville to play on an All-Star team against the Archer Nine Devils. Others on the team signed with the Cincinnati Reds or tried out with the Minnesota Inside the City limits life was a little different for the blacks leading up to and during the 1970's.
