MODOC COUNTY FISH, GME & RECREATION COMMISSION 202 W 4" STREET ALTURAS, CM 96101 MINUTES - May 29, 2024 The meeting of the Modoc County Fish, Game and Recreation Commission was called to order by Vice Chairman COMMISSIONERS PRESENT: Clayton Oilar, Lorissa Soriano, Dion Ditmore, Dewayne Matthews, Jessie PUBLIC PRESENT: Megan Ferris, Paul Bailey, Gary Sides, Ned Coe, Ryan Carrothers, Trisha Johnson, and Sean Paul Molder at 6:00 pm at the Modoc Wildlife Refuge in Alturas. Klamath and Trinity rivers for 2024. Modoc National Forest Supplemental EIS. MATTERS INITIATED BY THE PUBLIC: Nothing to report. AGENCY REPORTS: starting June 3. DFW: Ryan Carrothers with the Department of Fish & Wildlife stated that DFW would be having collection sites at Alturas for the Deer glands. He also told the Commission that the new. Biologist would be Mr. Carrothers reported that they need more data on the bear population in Modoc. They will be working on an integrated population model and hope to collar at least 101 bears in Modoc with trapping to startin June. The ideai is to get data collected so that new regulations can be proposed in 2025. He urged the Commission to comment on the plan. Modoc Forest: Megan Ferris reported that all Recreation sites were open, Blue Lake and Howard's Gulch are the only sites with water at the present time. She also reported that the Inter Mountain Biking Association would be helping with trail work and Rip rap work will be done atl Reservoir's C, F and Janes. She let the Commission know that ift the Rainbow people came to the Modoc Forest, the area would be patrolled by the Modoc County Sheriff and that recreation sites were protected. Trisha Johnson reported that she had been doing bear spray training and al lot of surveying, started with raptors. Modoc RCD: Lorissa stated that they. had just finished up with the Children's) Forest. SUB-COMMITTEE REPORTS: Wildlife Report: Clayton Oilar reported that ai resident in Cal Pines had sited al bear and wolftracks. Gary Sides asked for al DFW report on species of fish found in Dorris Reservoir. Outdoor Expo/Fishpond Planning: Expoi is June 29th. Fish Pack-In: Chris has contacted Paul Divine about fish. Mr. Divine will try to geti into North Emerson to determine the viability of fish. OLD BUSINESS Guzzlers & Grant Opportunities: Paul reported that he had been working on guzzlers in thel Deep Refuge Wolf: Ned Coe reported that the compensation fund had been totally spent. Cheryl gave the' Wolf Veteran's Sportsman's Weekend: Lorissa reported that the event went well, and they had quite ai few area and they hoped to replace M21 on Mowitz Butte.
