MINUTES Troy Recreation Board Meeting Wednesday, April 17,2024 4:00 p.m. Hobart Arena Members Present: Marty Hobart, President; Tom Dunn, Vice President; Ashley Reed, Secretary; Lindsy Fisher and Eric Herman. Kenneth Siler, Director of] Recreation and Carrie Slater, Assistant Director of Recreation. Others Present: Thei meeting was called to order by the President of the Recreation Board, Marty Hobart. Thei minutes of the March 6, 2024 Special Troy Recreation Board meeting were read. It was moved by Mr. Dunn and seconded by Mr. Herman that the minutes be approved as read. Motion The Director informed the board that online summer program registrations began on Monday, April 1st, which includes swim team and swim lessons. Att this point, he doesn'tanticipate being ablet to offer the gymnastics program again this summer because the department in conjunction with' Tumble U arel having a challenge finding instructors to cover the program. The department was unable to offer thej program last year because Tumble U struggled to get people to cover The Director also informed the board that Float Troy reservations are still ongoing. There are 54 Hockey registrations just started. Registrations for the youth program that starts in September began on April gth. There havel been two sets of evaluation dates. There was one: set of evaluations at the arena prior to the ice coming off and the Hockey Parents Booster group rented some ice this week at the Springfield facility to conduct the 2nd set ofevaluation dates. This was done last year as well. Registrations will continue until the season begins until team rosters are filled. Summer adult hockey registrations began on April gth as well. It will start the first week ofJune. That program is over half filled. The summer fills up every year it is held. The Girls' softball games will begin on April 27th. Home games will start on Monday, April 29th. It's the annual funding meeting with them to explain the program and see ifthey have any questions regarding the funding. Itis funding for 2025. Winterguard International teams havel been in the arena practicing today. Tomorrow will be the event day. The entire parking lot will be filled. The City Park will be used: for the general public top park. Competition is from 7:30 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. Teams from all over the country will be att the arena competing and practicing. The Director said it has been a good partnership with Winterguard. They continue tol host the world championships in Dayton. Most ofthe teams request to come back and use the arena again for a practice venue versus a church or high school The Directori informed the board that there is quite of few events coming up for the next six weeks until graduation season is over. The last graduation is Sunday, May 26th, with Tipp City. There is a concert on May 18th. Tickets continue to sell well for that concert. The Director thinks it will be close to a sellout. It's about 500 seats shy of selling out. Staffis currently working on an event that will be announced this weekend. It will go on sale next week. Itisa Mixed Martial Arts event that will take place on June 15th. Several oft these events have been Staff is working on some fall events. There will likely be two Christian events and one country show. The Director is continuing to work with Todd ofVariety Attractions on one or two ofour own events as well. Hopefully one country and one classic: rock. There is one event that Todd has recommended for November or 2025. The event is $85,000. It for Lee Brice, a country artist. Assistant Director informed thel board that staff has been preparing the pool for opening. Monday was the first night oflifeguard training classes. There are 7in the class. To date, she has approximately 72 staffmembers hired for the pool. Ofthe 72 staff members, 32 are lifeguards. She is very confident she has plenty ofs staff to cover the pool hours. The pool needs an assessment feasibility study to determine what kind of work needs tol be done at the pool to keep itu up to date and maintained.
