MINUTES Troy Recreation Board Meeting Wednesday, June 19, 2024 4:00 p.m. Hobart Arena Members Present: Marty Hobart, President; Tom Dunn, Vice President; Ashley Reed, Secretary; Lindsy Fisher Kenneth Siler, Director of] Recreation. and Eric Herman. Others Present: The meeting was called to order by the President oft the Recreation Board, Marty Hobart. The minutes of the May 15, 2024 Troy Recreation Board meeting were: read. It was moved by Mr. Herman and seconded by Mrs. Fisher that the minutes be approved as read. Motion carried. The Director informed the board that there is a significant increase in Float Troy reservations. They are full for 2 out of3 nights for this weekend. Reservations are down slightly from last year. Youth hockey registrations are down slightly as well. He thinks it's ai matter oft timing of when people are registering. They have until July 15th until the early bird registration fee goes up. He will be sending out another reminder email to all participants from last year about registering before that timeline. He anticipates having the same number ofteams this coming year as. last season. Teams were down one this past season from the previous year because the High School division and thel bantam division will have one team each. They are the two oldest groups. All coaches are inj place. Most ofthes summer recreation programs have started at this point (youth and adult tennis, playground, baseball clinic, theater, swim lessons, swim team). Program registrations are up. AI lot ofthe programs are maxed out. The Troy Playground Program went to Piqua 36 Skate Club for their Friday field trip. There were approximately 20 kids that participated. Swim Team numbers are up significantly. There has been an influx of20- 251 kids from the Dolphin. The Dolphin changed the: requirement for their team. They have tol be members oft the pool now. Versailles swim team coach isn'to coaching this year. They have a high school student teaching the team and a good number of families came to the' Troy Aquatic Park's team as well. The swim team has had two meets SO far and have won both meets by significant margins. The Director anticipates winning thel league, which hasn't happened in al long time. Numbers are thei most the team has ever had at 1591 kids. There were 95 participants last year. Goat Yoga starts thel beginning of August for a couple ofe evenings. The Director also informed the board that since the last meeting, graduation season finished up. The concert following thel last board meeting was close tol being sold out. It was a great show and there wasi really good feedback. After graduations were over, staff started the refrigeration system toj put summer ice down. Summer icel began on. June 3rd. Unfortunately, there was a leak Numbers aren't great. They were maxed out two years ago. There was only 3 days ofice before it went down. It took 4-5 days with the contractor to getit fixed. The Director feels that it will hold through the summer but he's going to try to expedite getting it fixed. It was budgeted for next year. The Director is hoping it will be under $75,000 sO it won'th have to go through the bid process. The lead time is 15to 20 weeks. The challenge was the ice had to be removed quickly because the next day staffhad to set up for ai non-ice event. The Park Department helped by allowing staff to use their bobcat. There was a dance two days later. The system was able to be started back up. Staff flooded for a couple of days and then the ice had to be covered up: for another non-ice event. Staffhas been flooding 241 hours a day for the last 3 days. The ice is thick enough for user groups to use. In the midst oft that, another staff member left to go to the Park Department. The Directori is going to try to do interviews next week to try to fill the Facility Operator position off oft the laborer list. The skating club summer competition will be held the second weekend in July. The ice will go off at the end ofJuly. The dehumidifier project will start after that. The units should be coming in the next two weeks. There is currently one concert announced on October 10th. There are 3 or 4 closed to being nailed down with outside promoters. A Christmas show will be announced sometime in July. Trace Atkins will be in November. A second Christmas show will likely be in December. The MMA event went well. They were very pleased. There were over 1,000 tickets The Director informed the board that as ofl Monday, 480 Troy Aquatic Park season passes plus 58 grandparent passes have been sold. The goal is typically 500. Sales are ahead of last year at The board reviewed a Troy Aquatic Park daily attendance and concessions report. Asof Monday, daily revenues and concessions were both up about $3,000 versus this time last year. The board reviewed 2024-25 Ice Rental Rates. The Director would like to increase the weekday, weeknight and weekend rates by $10.00. He would like to increase the Senior Citizen rate for public skating. It hasn't! been increased since 2008. He would like to increase figure skating freestyle and summer coupon rates from $9.00 to $10.00 during the fall and winter season, raise the book from $55.00 to $60.00, raise summer freestyle coupon pass to $12.00 for one hour of ice, raise rates the skating club is billed for various classes to $40.00, increase the. Jr. Clubi rate and increase skating club and Troy High School rates. It wasi moved by Mrs. Reed and seconded by Mrs. Fisher to approve the proposed 2024-2025 Ice rental rates. Motion carried. sold.
