She, along with her husband Robert Browning Jr., made aviation her life. Emma Browning helped to develop and manage early fixed base operations enabled by the Air Commerce Actof 1926, resulting in the need for licensed aircraft mechanics and training standards at the growing number of airports appearing throughout the United States. During her early career she became acquainted By 1939, Emma Browning, a licensed pilot, moved to Austin with her family to lease the University Airport in Austin, Texas. There they began training pilots through the Civilian Pilot Training Program (CPTP). In 1942, the CPTP became the War Training Service and the Brownings trained pilots for the U.S. Army Air Corps. Their flight school was the only licensed training facility to offer advanced aerobatic training in the Waco UPF-7 After World War II, Browning Aerial Service moved to the city-owned Robert Mueller Municipal Airport, where they provided maintenance, storage, charters, sales, and flight instruction- teaching many Central Texas how to fly. In 1973, after the death of her husband, Emma Browning took over one of Austin's oldest companies. She continued as its president until 1987 when she sold the business to a firm that eventually became Signature Emma Browning was passionate about general aviation, and helped with the formation oft the National Air Transportation Association, the Civil Aeronautics Administration and the Texas Aeronautics Commission.
