June 10, 2024 CALLTOORDER: Mayor Grisham called meeting to order at 6:00pm INVOCATION: Councilwoman Spears gave the invocation ROLL CALL: Members present for roll call were as follows: to wit: Mayor Grisham, Councilwoman Gonzales, Councilwoman Spears, Councilwoman Brown, Councilwoman Klepac and Councilwoman Amick. PUBLIC COMMENT: N/A CALLED AGENDA: (Discuss and consider the following items) A. Short Term Contract with the Sheriff's Dept. for Law Enforcement in De Leon Jan Grisham opened the meeting and stated that the city wanted to consider a short-term contract between the City of Deleon and the Sheriff's Department. She commended Sheriff Pounds and. Judge Davis for Emma Gonzales asked the question, "Do other cities in our county get sheriff's coverage. Pounds responded that they do, such as Gustine, but that Deleon received about 30% of the Councilmember Trudy Spears asked the question, "Will we be getting one or two officers to cover Pound responded that there would be one officer in the area, and the calls from the City of Deleon willl be answered according to priority, depending on how urgent and what other calls that they Councilmember Trudy Spears asked the question about reimbursement of money to the sheriff's office for their service. To answer that question, Judge Davis passed out a new contract with a $30 per hour for reimbursement instead of the $43 per hour that was previously mentioned in a former contract. Sheriff Pounds stated that this was simply reimbursement and they were not making any City Manager Denman stated for the benefit of the audience that may not have been present at the last meeting, that this was a one-year contract in order to buy time for the Deleon Police Mr. Denman asked Sheriff Pounds to explain how the citations would be handled. Sheriff Pounds responded that the police department tickets will continue be given to the municipal judge and the sheriff's department citations will be sent to the. Judge in Comanche. However, a long-term Sheriff Pounds stated that this contract needed to have benchmarks of possibly 30/60/90 days in Council Member Amick stated that on page 2, article 4, 'Period of Services' needed to be amended, as follows, by adding this statement: "For the duration of this agreement, the City and Councilmember Laura Brown made motion to accept the Corporative Agreement between the City of Deleon and Comanche County for the provision of additional law enforcement services 'as a one-year contract.
