CITY OF SCHULENBURG SCHULENBURG, TX March, 8, 2021 The City Council oft the City of Schulenburg met in a special session on Monday, March, 8, 2021 at 5:30 P.M. in the Council Chambers located at 607 Upton Avenue, Schulenburg, Texas. The elected officials present included Mayor Elaine Kocian, Aldermen Chip Bubela, Wendy Fietsam, Ben Herzik, Clarence Ahlschlager, and Larry Veselka. City Staff present were City Mayor Kocian called role and led the Pledge of Allegiance. Mason Florus said a prayer over the Mrs. Walker led discussion on Executive order GA-34 Lifting Mask Mandate, while Continuing, Mrs. Walker expressed that she wished to foliow suit with Schulenburg ISD's policy which is to continue with current COVID-19 protocols through May. Her recommendation to Council is to continue the City's current protocols including symptom checks, hand sanitizing stations, social distancing, and encouraging the wearing oft face coverings in all City buildings. Alderman Veselka stated that we can't force citizens to wear the masks but will continue to encourage through May in the hopes that many citizens will be vaccinated by then. Alderman Fietsam said she wishes we would do away with the masks but she understands. Alderman Herzik replied that if the school is doing it, he thinks the City should do something similar stating that the City will still be doing their part to keep citizens safe. Alderman Bubela made a motion, seconded by Alderman Herzik to accept Mrs. Walker's recommendation and continue with current COVID-19 protocols in City buildings through May. Council adjourned into executive session at 5:41 to discuss the following pursuant to Government Code, Section 551.074 Personnel Matters - City Administrator in relation to appointment, employment, evaluation and duties of a public officer or employee; ort to hear a Alderman Veselka made a motion, seconded by Alderman Herzik to adjourn the executive session at 7:26.
