CITY OF SCHULENBURG SCHULENBURG, TX May, 17, 2021  The City Council of the City of Schulenburg met in regular session on Monday, May 17th, 2021 at 6:00 P.M. int the Council Chambers located at 607 Upton. Avenue, Schulenburg, Texas. The elected officials present included Mayor Elaine Kocian, Aldermen Greg Thomas, Wendy Fietsam, Clarence Ahlschlager, and Larry Veselka. City Staff present were City Administrator, Tami Walker, Operations' Manager, Darryl Moeller, Billing/Utility Manager, Megan Bartos, and Visitors included Layne Vyvjala oft the Schulenburg Sticker, Pastor Lemae Higgs, EDC President, Paddy Magliolo, Ned Brown and Ramsey Cripe of Schneider Engineering, and Ivân Mayor Kocian called role and led the Pledge of Allegiance. Pastor Lemae said a prayer over the Alderman Veselka made a motion, seconded by Alderman Thomas, to accept the Consent  Human Resources Officer, Mason Florus.  Velasquez.  meeting and its members.  Agenda A and B. The motion passed unanimously.  (A) The minutes from the Council Meeting held on May 6, 2021  (B) The payment of current bills  Mrs. Walker read the second reading of a Resolution approving a project oft the Schulenburg Economic Development Corporation giving a grant of $100,000 to Perdue Farms, Inc., a Maryland Corporation, for site improvements to promote new or expanded business and Alderman Thomas made a motion, seconded by Alderman Fietsam, to accept the EDC's Alderman Herzik entered the meeting and took his place in Council Chambers. Mrs. Walker led discussion on Executive Order GA-34 Lifting the Masks Mandate while Canceling COVID-19 protocols in all City Buildings. Mrs. Walker said the intention was to run parallel with Schulenburg ISD and nowi that school is about over, she feels we are at a point to Alderman Fietsam made a motion, seconded by Alderman Herzik, to lift the Mask Mandate. The Human Resources Officer, Mason Florus, led discussion on a City Historic Preservation Ordinance in an effort to become a Certified Local Government through the Texas Historical Mr. Florus explained that he gathered more information, as Council requested, and was presenting the proposal again. Alderman Veselka asked if we could back out of this agreement in the future. Mr. Florus replied that he spoke with Lorelei Willett, Certified Local Government  creation of new primary. jobs in the City of Schulenburg. recommendation to approve the Grant for Perdue.  lift the mandate.  motion passed unanimously. Operations' Manager, Darryl Moeller, updated Council on the following items:  Sewer, Water, and Street Departments have been working on a new manhole at the corner of Hillje and North Main. There is a contractor coming tomorrow to help Street Department assisted Sewer Department replacing bearings at Kallus Sewer Plant  Water Department read and replaced meters Electric Department replaced meters and trimmed trees Parks Department has been mowing grass City Administrator, Tami' Walker, reported the following:  Friday, May 7, 2021 - City Staff attended the funeral of Gary Valchar. Teamwork with the employees to prepare the Sports Complex for two playoff games Monday, May 10, 2021 - Conducted interviews for positions to be filled. Techline began Wednesday, May 13, 2021 - Conference call with Schneider Engineering to discuss the Thursday, May 14, 2021 - Contacted AEP to consider the Expo Center as a Staging Friday, May 14, 2021 - Conducting interviews for positions tol be filled Swimming pool has not met the required number of lifeguards.
