CITY OF SCHULENBURG SCHULENBURG, TX July 5, 2022 The City Council oft the City of Schulenburg met in regular session on Tuesday, July 5, 2022, at 6:00 P.M. in the Council Chambers located at 607 Upton Avenue, Schulenburg, Texas. The elected officials present included Mayor, Elaine Kocian, Aldermen Gregg Thomas, Wendy Fietsam, Larry Veselka, Howard Stoner, and Clarence Ahlschlager. City Staff present were City Administrator, Tami Walker, Operations Manager, Darryl Moeller, and City Secretary, Mason Visitors included, Darrell Vyvjala of the Schulenburg Sticker and Ivân Velasquez. Mayor Kocian called role and led the Pledge of Allegiance. Mr. Florus said a prayer over the Mrs. Walker informed Council that Terri Wagner, Executive Director of the Schulenburg Chamber of Commerce, was supposed to present numbers from the 7th annual Sausagefest. Alderman Stoner requested that Consent Agenda Item D, the payment of current bills, be taken Alderman Veselka made a motion, seconded by Alderman Fietsam, to accept Consent Agenda Items A, B, and C. June 27, 2022 (C) The minutes from the Special Meeting on June 27, 2022 Alderman Stoner inquired about several bills. Stoner stated that we have four Class A CDL drivers, and al lift att the Warehouse, so why does the City get a third party to haul sludge and change tires. Stoner also questioned why Smith Electric was hired to clear brush. Mrs. Walker replied that sometimes the guys get tied up with other projects and Aquazime Services hauls sludge while Aquazime Disposal is where the City purchases palymer. Mrs. Walker continued that we do the majority of our vehicle maintenance but again when we get behind, we stay local and buy tires and get them installed from a local shop. Mrs. Walker also replied that Smith has been clearing brush for us for years because the City simply does not have the equipment nor the manpower to clear major stretches of brush on the rural lines. Mrs. Walker addressed other bills explaining that Techline is for replenishing electrical inventory, Qutell is a property management software for PD, and BEFCO is engineering fees for steaking on Keuper and James Avenues. Alderman Stoner made a motion, seconded by Alderman Fietsam, to accept the payment of Mrs. Walker led discussion on setting Budget Workshop dates. Mrs. Walker suggested Wednesday August 10th. and Wednesday August 17th. Mrs. Walker also stated that she would like to set the tax rate and establish a public hearing on the regular scheduled meeting on Alderman Fietsam made a motion, seconded by Alderman Thomas, to set Budget Workshop dates Wednesday August 10th and' Wednesday. August 17" at 5:00 P.M. at the City Hall Multi- Municipal Court. Judge, Kayla Peters, Chief of Police, Troy Brenek, and Public Library Director, Operations Manager, Darryl Moeller's report was included in Council's packets but he announçed that the City is planning on not running a Saturday garbage route any longer. Moeller said they will deliver a few more dumpsters to some business that should hold them over. Moeller stated that this will give the employees more free time and save the City some overtime, Moeller concluded that they will try it and if it doesn'twork out, the City will go back to Alderman Stoner asked which garbage truck hadi issues. Moeller replied the big garbage truck had the DEF issue, the oldest truck's AC went out, and the newest truck had an issue with the current bills. The motion passed unanimously. August 15th. June 28, the pool began their extended hours Tank Mrs. Walker also announced that the pool was closed June 18th and will be closed July 10th due to staffing, bank bids have been sent out, the City received al Festival Parade entry, the Major Girls Allstar Sectional Tournament finished up this weekend, the Juniors Boys Allstar Sectional Tournament will finish up tonight, and M&C Fonseca requested their first payment of $123,660. Mrs. Walker concluded by announcing to Council that there has been a second application for non-traditional housing in Schulenburg and she is asking Council make a good faith effort to Alderman Veselka asked Mrs. Walker if the City could do anything about the antique store on Lyons putting inventory out on the sidewalk blocking access.
