CITY OF SCHULENBURG SCHULENBURG, TX March 4, 2024 The City Council oft the City of Schulenburg met in regular session on Monday, March 4, 2024, at 6:30 P.M. int the Council Chambers located at 607 Upton. Avenue, Schulenburg, Texas. The elected officials present included Mayor, Connie Koopmann, Aldermen Larry Veselka, Scott Stoner, and Clarence Ahlschlager. City Staff present were City Administrator, Tami Walker, Operations Manager, Darryl Moeller, Police Chief, Troy Brenek, and City Secretary, Mason Visitors included Darrell Vyvjala of the Schulenburg Sticker, Reverend Andrew Stafford, Alan Mayor Koopmann called role. Reverend Stafford said a prayer over the meeting and its members. Mayor Koopmann led the Pledge of Allegiance and the Texas Pledge. Florus. Mendel, and Ivan Velasquez. Under Presentations by Citizens, Alan Mendel addressed Council about his temporary signs. He stated his two signs have been confiscated. He claims he's been putting up his signs on the Under Consent. Agenda, Alderman Stoner asked what the check for TCEQ was in reference to. Alderman Veselka made a motion, seconded by Alderman Stoner, to accept Consent Agenda A. Minutes from the Regular Scheduled Council Meeting held on February 21, 2024 Mrs. Walker led discussion on an Ordinance Declaring Unopposed Candidates in May 4, 2024, General Election to be Elected to Office; Canceling the General Election and Providing an Mayor Koopmann read the ordinance declaring the following candidates unopposed: side of the road for 20 years and its petty that they were picked up. Mrs. Walker, stated that it is for our 2-year Permit. Items A and B. The motion passed unanimously. B. Payment of Current Bills Effective Date. The motion passed unanimously. Alderman Veselka made a motion, seconded by Alderman. Ahlschlager, to accept the ordinance. Mrs. Walker led discussion on setting a Special Meeting for the period of Official Canvassing. Mrs. Walker said that the canvasing can only be conducted during a certain period. Mrs. Walker suggest either moving the May 6th meeting or setting a special meeting date in between the two Alderman Veselka made a motion, seconded by Alderman Stoner, to move the May 6th meeting Municipal Court Judge, Kayla Peters', Chief Brenek's Police and Code Enforcement, Library Director, Thadious Polasek's, and Fire Marshal, Steve Strickland's, reports were all included in scheduled May meetings. tol Tuesday, May 7th. The motion passed unanimously. Council's Packets. Operations Manager, Darryl Moeller, reported the following to Council: Electric Department put up 3 new services, ran 300 feet of wire, and erected two steel Street Department put up and took down all the flags and are working on drainage on Water Department laid 700 feet of line at the Sports Complex to the existing Lift Station, worked on leaks at the Sports Complex, and made a water tap on Bucek St. Sewer Department made a tap at Bucek St., worked on pumps at Dollar General Lift poles at the walking trail at the Sports Complex South Street Station, and conducted plant maintenance Alderman Stoner inquired about seeding the Boy's Baseball Field and stated the pump in the dugout wasn't working. Moeller answered that the school didn't want to seed it this year. SISD and the City are working together on a different method to see if that helps the grass grow better. Moeller also stated that the pump should have been fixed a few weeks ago, and he'll look Alderman Stoner also asked about the lights at the Helipad not working. Moeller said the timer was thrown off after the power outage a few weeks ago. The timer has been reset. into it. City Administrator, Tami Walker, reported the following to Council: The failed fire inspection of the Library was on Feb. 7th, Fire Marshal Strickland was supposed to follow up within the next few weeks. Also, the Library was incorrectly written up on expired fire extinguishers. They were scheduled to be replaced by the end of February. Next meeting we plan to dive into the foundation issues with City Hall Met with the Grant Writer Met with the Project Manager with Steps Forward. The hand rails will not be painted in time for Sausagefest. However, all 41 handrails will be cleaned and repainted with oil- based paint. City Wide Cleanup is coming up March 16th, 20th, and 23rd Conducted an interview last week Iwill be out the rest of the week Chief Brenek expressed his gratitude to Council for reaching out and offering condolences with Alderman Ahlschlager made a motion, seconded by Alderman Veselka, to adjourn the meeting the passing of his father. at 6:56.
