CITY OF SCHULENBURG SCHULENBURG, TX July 1, 2024 The City Council oft the City of Schulenburg met in regular session on Monday, July 1, 2024, at 6:30 P.M. in the Council Chambers located at 607 Upton Avenue, Schulenburg, Texas. The elected officials present included Mayor, Connie Koopmann, Alderwoman, Kathy Kleiber, Aldermen, Greg Thomas, Roger Moellenberndt, and Clarence Ahlschlager. City Staff present were City Administrator, Tami Walker, Operations Manager, Darryl Moeller, Police Chief, Troy Visitors included Darrell Vyvjala of the Schulenburg Sticker, Stanley Pesek with the Schulenburg Knights of Columbus, Joshua Mendel, and Ivan Velasquez. Mayor Koopmann led the Pledge of Allegiance and the Texas Pledge. Brenek, and City Secretary, Mason Florus. Mayor Koopmann called role. Mason Florus said a prayer over the meeting and its members. Mr. Mendel stated he has property in the Wolters Subdivision off Highway 90, and his address is 403 E. Payment of Current Bills Mrs. Walker invited Stanley Pesek, Co-director oft the Schulenburg Knights of Columbus Schulenburg Festival Softball Tournament, to present to Council his request for HOT Funds. Mr. Pesek asked Council for $8,875. This is $500 more than what the KCs requested last year. Mr. Pesek stated that the increase is because the tournament is trying to secure more shades Mrs. Walker stated that Council budgeted $10,000 for the KCs State and Festival Tournament. and fans to combat the heat. The KCs did not host the State Tournament this year. Mayor Koopman professed to Council that she would like to see Council bestow the whole Alderman Moellenberndt made a motion, seconded by Alderman Thomas, to grant $10,000 in HOT Funds to the Schulenburg KCs for their Festival Softball Tournament. Mrs. Walker added that the budget needs to be ready to be presented to the public at Alderwoman Kleiber made a motion, seconded by Alderman Thomas, to schedule a Budget Workshop on Tuesday August 6, at 6:30 P.M. at the Council Chambers. The motion passed Mrs. Walker led discussion on constructing a building at the County Barn Lift Station. Mrs. Walker informed Council that the new lift station at the County Barn, has a cover but no protection from the wind. In order to better protect the City's infrastructure, staff is wanting build Operations Manager, Darryl Moeller, stated he don't know offt the top of his head but he knows the bid is under $20,000. He continued that Haworth was the lowest bidder at he believes Mrs. Walker added that she wants to get it done now before the winter months. It is under $20,000 but since it is not budgeted, she is requesting action from Council. Alderwoman Klieber asked if we have the funds available. Mrs. Walker replied yes, there is Alderman Ahlschlager made a motion, seconded by Alderman Thomas, to accept the bid from Haworth to construct a building at the County Barn Lift Station. The motion passed unanimously. Main and 605 Upton guys to assist in moving that has to be repaired Alderman Moellenberndt asked if the structural engineer visited City Hall yet. Mrs. Walker answered that one engineer was on vacation last week and the other one is on vacation this week. Hopefully after the holiday they will inspect City Hall as soon as possible. Alderman Moellenberndt also inquired about the Civic Center. Mrs. Walker replied that Cutright and Prihoda will host a pre-bid meeting on Thursday, July 11th at 9:30. Sealed Bids are also due August 1. Alderwoman Klieber commended City Staff for moving offices sO quickly. Alderman Moellenberndt commended City Staff for putting out the flags for the upcoming holiday. Mayor Koopmann wished everyone a happy and safe 4th of July Holiday.
