RESOLUTION NO. 1-2023 A RESOLUTION OF, THE COUNCIL OF TRAPPE TO AMEND THE TOWN CHARTER TO ADD SECTION 422 TITLED "CANCELLATION OF ELECTION WHERE SEAT IS UNCONTESTED TO AUTHORIZE THETRAPPE, ADMINISTRATORCLERKTOCANCELTHE ELECTION WHERE THE SEAT IS UNCONTESTED WHEREAS, Md. Code Ann. Local Government Article $ 4-304 confers upon the Council ofTrappe the authority to initiate proposed amendments the Charter for the Town ofTrappe; and WHEREAS, the Town of Trappe, under the grant of general authority and express powers, WHEREAS, the Council of Trappe is concerned with the cost of holding an uncontested WHEREAS, the Council of Trappe believes it is not necessary to pay for the expense of WHEREAS, the Council of Trappe has determined that it is desirable and in the public interest to amend the Charter for the Town of Trappe to add Section 422 to permit the Town to may regulate its own election; and election or special election; and holding an uncontested election where the Council seat is uncontested; and cancel an election when a seat is uncontested. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF TRAPPE AS Section 1: The Trappe Town Charter is hereby amended to include ai new Section 422 as FOLLOWS: follows: Section 422. Cancellation ofl Election Where Seat is Uncontested In the event that the seat for Council is uncontested and the time period for filing ac certificate ofnomination has expired toj file as either an official candidate ora as a write-in candidate, then the Towm.4dminbralw/Clerk may cancel the election. Ifthe election is canceled, the candidate running. for the uncontested seat shall Section 2.
