City Council discussion included: expressing appreciation to staff for data compilation pertaining to contraflow, as well as community education and outreach; inquired about why state legislation required non-electric bicycles to be treated in the same manner as electric bicycles; questioned whether the City had the authority to require bicycle riders to dismount in crosswalks and ride single file in bicycle lanes; inquired about bicycle lane capacity; suggested the creation of protected bicycle lanes as a potential solution; inquired about training requirements imposed by the school districts prior to students being allowed to ride to school; questioned the status of proposed legislation; and inquired about the possibility of the City setting up its own licensing program and whether other cities were pursuing similar options. ANNOUNCEMENTS/COMMITTEE REPORIS/COUNCIL REPORTS Mayor Khan Chetna Reddy Pagydyala, a Beckman High Sophomore, who represented Irvine on Team USA in the International Cricket Council Women's T20 World Cup Americas Qualifier. Chetna is one of 14 players on Team USA and has played cricket since age 8 in Irvine parks. Team USA was undefeated in six matches against opponents including Canada, Brazil, and Argentina in the first step of the qualification pathway to the 2024 Women's T20 World Cup and will advance to the Mayor Khan noted her attendance at the United Way's Homelessness Update for Orange County in late August, where data was presented on thoughts provided by Orange County residents on housing and homelessness.
