ANNOUNCEMENTS/COMMITTEE REPORISICOUNCL REPORTS Mayor Khan Mayor Khan wished members of the Muslim community a "Ramadan Mubarak", and expressed hope during this time of fasting and prayer that all will continue to strive for peace and justice. She also noted that she would be taking a short break at 7 p.m. to break her fast, at which time she would turn the meeting over to Vice Earlier in the day, Mayor Khan welcomed University of California, Irvine (UCI) Health Multiple Sclerosis (MS) providers and physicians, as well as local MS advocates from the National MS Society, to discuss the potential for future collaboration with the City. UCI is home toi the Multiple Sclerosis Research Center, one of 15 research centers in the nation recognized by the National MS Society for its efforts to find a cure for MS and a destination for people to receive care. For more information, to apply, or participate in the online survey, visit In updating its General Plan, a state-required document representing its vision for Irvine for the next 25 years and beyond, the City has prepared a Draft Program Environmental Impact Report (EIR) that evaluates potential environmental effects associated with the update, which will be available for public review and comment from Friday, March 15, through Monday, April 29, at 5 p.m. The 2045 General Plan Update will include goals, objectives, policies, and implementation actions to help preserve and enhance Irvine's quality of life. Prepared by the City Clerk's Office 5 City Council Minutes March 12, 2024 Last week, OCFA announced the passing of Fire Captain Rob Culp, whose last assignment was at Fire Station 27 in Irvine. Over the past 25 years, Captain Culp was dedicated to the service of the National City Fire Department, Carlsbad Fire Department, and OCFA, leaving a legacy of courage, commitment, and care. During his 16 years with OCFA, Rob served as Firefighter Paramedic, Fire Apparatus Engineer, and Fire Captain, and was a member of the Technical Rescue Team and FEMA California Task Force 5. Councimember Kim extended condolences to Captain Culp's family, friends, and the entire OCFA community, and requested that the meeting be adjourned in his honor. Vice Mayor Agran Members of the public are invited to participate in the "Welcome Home Marines" Pillow and Pillowcase Drive to support the 2/11 Marine Battalion, in partnership with the Irvine 2/11 Marine Adoption Committee. The mission is to collect 100 new standard size bed pillows and pillowcases through April 13 to welcome home Marines returning from deployment. The Irvine 2/11 Marine Adoption Committee, established in 2007, is a volunteer organization dedicated to the care and support of active Marines from the 2/11 Battalion out of Camp Pendleton, and meets regularly at the Lakeview Senior Center to plan and oversee activities that include holiday and pre-deployment events, care packages, toy drives, and more.
